It's fool proof and is totally upgradable, offers a simple way to change payload type and ps3 firmware type. You should really check it out. It sounds like you were running the old way.
I disagree. This is a pain in the butt!

I'm sure I just suck at it, but out of about 30 tries I successfully got the hack to work once. The timing I can't figure out even with the help on the screen. I'm sure I've got it right but most of the time it doesn't work.

I like being able to pick my payload, but it's not worth the hassle of the timing.
Any suggestions to make the timing easier? I unplug when it says "deviced challenged right?"

I am using the Zaxtron FE with my iPod Touch and my PS3 Slim. I have had unsuccesful boot-ups, but generally my timing is fine.
I tried once letting it wait a little while at the Hit Power + Eject now screen and I failed. It might have been bad timing of the power + eject, but I never tested it again.

Be aware, that the most critical timing is the pressing of Power+Eject. Use two hands, don't press them simultaneously but don't be slow either.

    My procedure:
    1. Turn on iPod, choose Android and let it boot up the front end. Press the power button to cycle to your preferred firmware.
    2. Plug out the PS3 power cable, and plug in the USB cable for the iPod. (Remember, don't leave any other USB devices connected at the same time)
    3. Plug in the PS3 power, wait for the red standby to light up (I usually wait 1-4 seconds after plugging in the power).
    4. Hit the Home button on the iPod. The text "Hit Power+Eject now" appears. I then lay my fingers on the power and eject button. I press the power button followed by eject. If you are to slow, such that the two beeps don't come immediately after eachother, it might be unsuccesful. If you are too fast, the PS3 doesn't register it as sequential presses and will only beep once.
    5. Wait for the INIT to change. When the Device challenged message appears be ready to unplug. As soon as I see the Success screen, I unplug. I do not unplug already at challenged, although it might work.

I have try to replace, the original iphodroid files with this ones: "Hermes v4b w/PSN", but when i try to start the iphodroid, i have stucked at the "radio: reading baseband nvram... done" point.

I need the Hermes type jailbreak, because with Zaxtron and without disc in the tray, I always got a 80028F14 error.

    Any solution?

Suddenly my Zaxtron wont let me jailbreak.

When I attempt to start the PS3 jailbroken my Zaxtron front end just stops at Device5-Wait-Ready.
As I wrote in the post just above, I have never had timing issues, but now this has become a problem.

It never reaches Challenged and Success.

Have any of you experienced something similar? Or maybe you know a way to fix it.

Because I have trouble playing Modnation Racers, I have tried switching between different payloads.

I have now tried the Hermes v4b for iPod Touch 1G for the second time.
I cannot play/install any games using this payload.

Without a disc in my drive, my PS3 behaves just like described in this thread: Error Message 8001003A / When trying to start ANY Game - PS3Hax Network - Playstation 3 Hacks and Mods
My /app_home/PS3_GAME/ folder is just grey and has the name of the selected game. And trying to run it gives 8001003A error.

If I put a disc in and try to select a different game in either Open Manager or Gaia, the XMB shows the /app_home/PS3_GAME/ with the desired Game name, but the background and movie/sound is from the inserted game disc.

Is it incorrectly compiled? Or should I just stick with PL3 for my iPod, although I am having stability issues.

    Hey ppl!

I have exactly the same problem with this Payload. Some friends didn't get it to work either with the same problem. We are using Iphone 2g. I hope someone can fix it or recompile it properly. I have to look into this compiling thing so that i can do it myself.

Edit: It startet one time today. But then it had the same error as the guy above so bd emu still doesn't work. You should remove the download links if it's not working anyway.

I have tried just about all of the payloads that are available here and in the wiki (most are the same). Anyone who is having a problem with a payload or method (Front-end or Old Scroll Screen) Transfer Your Files to your Phone from PC or Laptop With a sync Cable using either DiskAid or iFunbox or some similar app.
This should clear up that problem as SSH wireless can create errors. If you are having problems with the jailbreak at the PS3 end make sure you are using a good iPhone sync cable as this will create a major problem and you may have to wiggle the cord around while trying payloads to get a good connection. Trial and error.
I hope that this helps some of you.

KaKaRoTo’s PSGroove fork PSFreedom.ko PL3, has been updated (10.20.10), source wise v1.1, to include the latest and greatest: Iphone/Itouch Fix, Hermes v3, Retail Package (PKG) Support, Game Updates, Diskless Boot, 3.42 game support, etc.
I'm confused -- which bin is this in the payload folder? I'm not quite clear on the naming conventions.
