using PICFlash I tried to change the crystal setting to 16MHz in the following psgroopic_1-6d-3-41_18fxxxx-ledb145c0-c1-btldr-zip, then when i try to use PDFUSB to flash and select cancel at the start the hex is listed but it doesn't start at 0800 it starts at 0000 but it is all FF until 0800.
i used 'MCHPFSUSB bootloader 20MHz custom by MP.hex' for the bootloader which i changed to 16MHz using WinPIC800

    i used MP's 18FX550-16mhz-RB1.hex for the bootloader.
did you read the whole thread? its explained there that you dont need to modify anything in the hex if your flashing with picdem flasher (pdfusb)

when you muck with the hex files they will lose a very important hex string at the very beginning of the file that allows code to be mapped to certain areas of the chip. this is whats happening with you

i suggest you read it over again to fully understand everything a little better.

if there is something that is confusing or you dont understand please feel free to let me know and ill improve it as best i can.

I didn't know that you should press cancel when it gives an error, and i pressed yes. I then pressed program device but all it said was it cleared it, but failed to program. I re-did it by pressing cancel and it worked out, but how do i know if my bootloader didn't get overwritten from my first mistake? My board is working fine, it's a USB Bit Whacker (18F2553) from sparkfun

if its working then your fine. if it overwrote it it wouldnt go back into bootloader mode.
the only bootloaders theres a risk of my hex overwriting are usbhid bootlaoders but even then those bootloaders are protected (afaik). with the boootloader i use all that happens is the config bits will get overwritten if they are not protected (they must be in your case) and it may brick the board requiring a reflash.

iLLNESS, thanks for all your great work, but i gotta a doubt here. With PSGrooPIC 1.6d i'll be able to load games without disc over the /apps_home/PS3_GAME the same way that i can with the PSGrooPIC v1.7a? Thank you.
