Homebrew & Emus - Will Anyone Bother?
Homebrew & Emus - Will Anyone Bother? –

With all the hoo-hah and difficulties that our asian friends are having getting these Jailbreak devices out of Hong Kong, there obviously isn't going to be many of them knocking about.
My greatest fear is that the wonderful chaps who port and code all them fantastic homebrew proggies and emulators are not going to think it's worth the bother working to a tiny audience.
When I first heard of the Jailbreaks I nearly wet my pants with excitement over the thought of all them fantastic emulators, etc.
I remember when the Dreamcast scene exploded in the early 2Ks and it was surely a magical time for homebrew, dozens and dozens of emulators, media players, and so on.
I'm not too arsed about piracy and consider the ability to make copies of games to be a 'nice side effect'. But I must say that I am absolutely GAGGING for a full speed - hi rez MAME port to PS3.
Like I said though, the folks that actually port and program the stuff will maybe see this as a niche market and maybe not worth the bother due to the limited audience?

once the ps3 gets more thoroughly hacked and a legal sdk comes out - we will have an explosion of homebrew. just like on psp.
jailbreak is like first hacks when 1.50 firmware for psp was around. real homebrew appeared later.

Thing is that you can jailbreak from a lot of devices, it ranges from the Texas T84+ calculator to Android phones and the list is growing by every day.
Besides, they can't block people from selling hardware without any jailbreaking software installed.
There must be millions of PS3:s around the globe with fw 3.41 and bellow, not to mention 99% of all current PS3:s in stock. Anybody that want's to jailbreak can buy any console in any store and be able to do it, at least as of tody. Since the hack is so simple, many people will do it. I see no reason as to why the homebrew scene for the PS3 won't be huge! Just keep people from updating their consoles.

People will make such things, because they like the challenge and for the simple fact that they can.

I hope you guys are right.
I have had a look at a few tutorials on doing the Jailbreak thing from other devices and it just looks too complicated - I personally am an utter n00b at stuff like that and don't think it would be something I could manage. I suspect there a LOT of people like me, and the ready made - plug & go device looked perfect for my needs. Maybe someone will come up with another n00b13 solution (hopefully).

Furthering eventum's point, anyone that is truly interested in the console hacking scene should know about the PSGroove by now. There is nothing to worry about regarding lack of homebrew or emulators.

Same here - works perfectly for me thus far.
The best thing about the ti-84+ is the ability to walk into most any department or office supply store and pick one up off the shelf.
The worst thing is unfortunately the price (it's about $88 retail, so more expensive than the many clones and dev boards)

Remember. PS JAILBREAK itself, was only announced less than a month ago. So much has happened in that short space of time, im sure much homebrew will be out in a few months.

No homebrew at this point would be like no Santa at christmas eve. We gotta give it some time folks, before the good stuff comes out.
Speaking of... How is the DC emu coming along?
