I just got a PS3 80GB (yay me!), but sadly, i do not have an external drive yet (boo me!)…so in order to get games to my PS3, I either have to copy from disk to PS3 (which I don't have any other than that MLB '09 game that was left in the machine when I bought it)….I know how to FTP, I have done a few games, but my gosh…they are so huge! They literally can take HOURS! But, that's not the problem, the problem is, the FTP closes connection…ALOT….I just set it to ACTIVE mode instead of PASV (or Auto, whatever it was on), and it has so far managed to transfer 1/2GB w/o disconnecting. Therefore, I cannot leave it alone and go to sleep or anything while it transfers and I got God of War 3 coming up soon and Final Fantasy XIII (please, dont tell me either of those games are not good, everyone has their own opinion, etc..)…those are 40GB transfers! if it already takes around 1 to 1 1/2 hours of time to transfer a 5GB game, I am not looking foward to constant reconnects, etc….BUT, that's not all….usually when it does drop connection, I have to reboot and re-jailbreak for it to pick it back up and I am doing that thru my iPhone! So it's a rather tedious setup i got to work with. Is it possible to transfer things thru ethernet? or does it have to be wifi? Ethernet would be almsot 2x faster (54mbps wifi vs 100mbps ethernet….my laptop MAY have 1Gbit ethernet, not sure though)…maybe it wouldn't disconnect as much if at all….I just looked at it and it dropped connection after 945MB..I am glad it picks up where it left off at though….otherwise I would have NO choice but to get an external drive….so, is anyone else having problems with FTP? Just so you know, I have disabled my firewall as well and it didn't do any help...

Yes, you can transfer hooking up a RJ45 cable from your laptop to your PS3. Do NOT use Filezilla but use FlashFXP instead. Do a search. Tons of threads.

Not so sure you wanna advertise to everyone how many games you own and which games you're gonna play.

thanks for the reply guys…I have a crossover cable at home (about 300 miles from me right now….) but I will either get another one or wait until I can get back home to get the crossover cable. As far as mentioning what game titles I am getting, I don't care for the most part who knows, I don't take my PS3 online b/c I don't care at all for online gaming…It wouldn't really matter to me if Sony banned me from online play…LOL….Also, I wasn't thinking about the Piracy talk when it came to this thread, I was just seeking advice….but I do hope to have a crossover cable in possession soon

u can use a normal Cat5 cable to transfer from PC to Console?? I thought u had to have a crossover cable for that?….also, my FTP speeds are HORRIBLY low….i do good to get 1.7MB/s, i can download that fast and I am only on 12Mbps internet! Shouldn't I bet getting like 5 or 6 times that???? I am wireless by the way, but Wireless should be 54Mbps or roughly 7MB/s….

What FTP program are you gonna use from the PS3? You have the standard "PS3 FTP Server". You can also use Blackbox server. You have Gaia also that runs an FTP server plus MultiMan background running server as well.

Any of those will do the trick. Don't use FileZilla from PC though. I was getting disconnected lots of times but switched to FlashFXP and everything runs pretty smoothly now.

I managed to get it to work, I tested with the standard FTP program (black screen with plain text, but it works)….I was using FlashFXP for Windows, I am primarily a Mac user so I will try my Mac client after Dead Rising 2 finishes installing it's data to the hard drive (again, first time it said data corrupt and told me to delete it). This is SOOO much faster! i got that game FTP'd over before I could eat 4 slices of pizza! LOL…..I mean with wireless I was doing good to hit 1.7MB/s, and on Cat5e, I was getting 24MB/s VERY easily!
