Downgrade Question

Hi, what is the time it takes to install the new firmware from the USB stick, mine has been running for 10 minutes now and it still hasent shut down. The green power light is flashing but the HDD light isnt on and the USB access light isnt on.

Any suggestions?

Wait for 10 mins more. If it doesn't finish, get a new thumbdrive and put the files back on it and try again.

Could it be that the HDD is formatting? The HDD light has yet to flash at all.

HDD light doesn't flash during the process. Only your thumbdrive should have a flashing light, but I wouldn't go stopping the process yet, as you can semi-brick your console. Like I said, just give it 10 more mins, if it doesn't stop, then power off your PS3 and start from the step of putting the firmware on a thumbdrive, but use a different thumbdrive. You could have corruption on your thumbdrive, or there might have just been an issue. It's just better to start out fresh again.

Or you could have one of the newer models that apparently won't downgrade

Give it up to 1hr and if it doesnt do anything then something is wrong. But its really bad to just unplug the system during this time. Also what kind of ps3? fat slim hdd size preinstalled firmware?

The PS3 is a 60GB fat, with 1.50 pre-installed. It now wont boot up properly, I boot but after 10 or so seconds the power light turns red.

K, start the whole process over again from the start. It's happened to some people before and it's recoverable.

Enter service mode or just retry with USB?

Try from the firmware and 1st lvl2_diag.self file. If that doesn't get you anywhere, start the whole process over from the beginning.
