so what exactly are you trying to do?
I'm trying to understand why we do need the bd player on a jailbroken ps3
I'd like to emulate it..
but I'm starting from scratch, no previous experience with ps hacking ever
We need it, because much like the 360 it has a key in it. If that key isn't present upon the booting up of the PS3, then it won't load any software. The 360 won't even boot. The BD drive is part of the security measures of the PS3. So, unless you can change the boot process on your PS3, you're wasting your time.
Assuming the playstation recognize the bd player but can't read the disk (e.g. broken laser) the booting problem is already solved but we aren't able to emulate fully the action of inserting the bd inside the player
I suppose because of some encoding system inside the bd player?
If your logic board still works, then the key can be fed to the PS3 and proper operation will happen. With the diskless booting of games, the reason it sometimes doesn't work is because the game is actually looking for the physical media and the security sector on the inner ring of the disk. A good portion of games don't look for this sector or a disk, and that's why diskless works. The only thing that you can hope to make diskless more compatible, is hunt down which games do this check, and see if you can't point it at the mounted game. KaRaKoTo updated his PL3 payload to gather diagnostic data off of the games that either black screen, or don't run diskless. Once you have that information, the payload could possibly be reprogrammed to appropriately load all games diskless.
It would be one helluva development. Reading lot of people have broken bd. ( In my case I have dead lense only). I insert disc the circle spins but wont load anything. So a reprogrammed payload would be my dream that supports all games discless.
Same here. Really would appreciate (and donate) to whoever gets this project going...

I don't know honestly, my bd is broken (but I do believe it has to be a game)
By the way there is a Bluerip emulation utility inside the debug firmware
I believe our hopes lie in rebug at this point
Thanks for your reply - I suppose I'll leave a game disc inside all the time (I just don't like the idea).
