    Hello

I have discovered, that the file ps1_rom.bin in the "ps1emu" directory on dev_flash of ps3 is for truth PS2 Bios File!
Evidence: file ps1_rom.bin, renamed from ps1_rom.bin to SCPH-70004_BIOS_V12_PAL_200.BIN works normally like PS2 Bios File on PS2 emulator "PCSX2".

I am writing about It, because I think, that It can help for turning on backward compatible on the consoles without PS2 emulation.

    Regards.

The BIOS isn't sufficient for making PS1/PS2 games run on non-native hardware such as any non-backwards compatible PS3. If that wasn't the case and the BIOS was sufficient, you wouldn't need an emulator like PCSX2 to play PS2 games on your PC, just sufficiently powerful hardware to use with the PS2 BIOS. This finding is neither surprising nor significant. Software emulation is what's needed for non-native hardware, and I'd rather just use PCSX2 than a shoddy homebrew PS2 emulator or port of it on the vastly inferior hardware of the PS3.

This is just a remnant of the PS2 emulation. The PS2 firmware also contains a special copy of the PS1 firmware for PS1DRV. To support both PS1 and PS2 compatibility they just put a copy of the PS2 firmware in the PS3 to support both and just left it there so it would work on all PS3s.

but all PS3s can still boot ps1 games, are you saying that ps3 slims use that ps2 bios to boot ps1 games in ps1drv?

To be precise: Only a part of the PS2's BIOS that resides in the PS3 will be used to boot Playstation games.

There is no way to just 'unlock' the Sony PS2 emulator. The emulators used by Sony all depended on HARDWARE. The 20gb and 60gb relied on the EE and the GS, and the 80gb relied on the GS. The newer PS3s do NOT have this hardware, therefore, the Sony PS2 emulator will NOT work. If you want a PS2 emulator, build one from the ground up. Either that, or spend $60 on a PS2.

Hopefully we'll just be able to use the already written PCSX2 via AsbestOS.

Without some modifications it probably wouldn't compile correctly on the PS3 architecture though, right?
