could not open USB device error
could not open USB device error –

Hi.
I received my AT90USB key today, have spent the last 5 hours trying to get it working reading through several tutorials and such.
Every tutorial i have read for this board and using PSgroove is the same so what i have been trying has not changed.
When i first used the board, got it into DFU mode no problems followed the tuts but once i get up to opening the USB device i go settings, communications, USB, open and get a could not open USB device error.
So i reset my board, now i can see it in device manager but it is not in DFU mode, and has a yellow exclamation mark next to it since the drivers are not correctly installed.
every time i try to update the drivers i either get a message saying latest drivers already installed, these drivers cant be installed because they are not intended for this device, or cant install them because there not digitally signed.
so i removed the driver, reinstalled it and exact same thing.
I tried again to open USB device, and again same error.
what is causing this, and how can i fix it?
I have heard you can only do this with windows XP or linux, please tell me thats not true because i have access to neither.
I am using the latest flip version 3.4.2.

I can get it into DFU mode, but i cant install the bloody drivers.
As i said above every time i try to update the driver it tells me the driver is not intended for the device.
i go update driver, locate the Flip folder, USB folder and hit ok, next and it tries to install takes a few seconds than says can not load driver because it is not intended for this device.
Is there anywhere else i can download the drivers for this?
Every time i download FLIP and use the drivers from there i have these problems, there has to be somewhere else i can get the drivers from.
oh, why could they not give us a dam drivers CD?

Tried flip 3.4.1 and same problems, i think its because i can not install the drivers for the device.
the windows default driver is installed, but there is still a yellow exclamation mark next to the device.
Any ideas on how i can get this working?
just seems weird that so many people have done this exact thing with no problems, ive googled this error, looked at so many forums and no one has ever had this issue.
just seems peculiar that it works for everyone, than i try it and get slammed in the face with a frying pan!
I really need to get this working, otherwise it was 120AUD down the drain!
thanks for any advice!

Just a quick question how can i tell if its been flashed properly?
i tried it on my other PC runing vista 32bit and this time the drivers are instaled fine but i cant get the device into DFU mode.
anyway, i used FLIP did everything as per the tutorial select device, load hex file, open USB, Erase Target Device Memory button when i clicked that a small menu and a green bar came up showing the progress than disapeared once completed, Program Target Device Memory button when i clicked that nothing happened, i waited a few moments than clicked it again and again nothing so i selected start aplication.
the LED did not go red as videos show, so im not sure if it flashed or not.
I hook it up to my ps3, its a slim so i remove power cable, insert USB cable with key attached, insert power cable, power ps3 and stright away press eject but the LED on the key does not change color stays green.
my ps3 takes longer than normal to boot, comes up with a unknown USB device detected and is like normal, no install package files folder.
so, how can you tell if its flashed correctly or not?
can you reflash it just to make sure its done ok, or what am i doing wrong?

o,BTW a edit to my above post i tried flashing the key again and this time i have the red LED the videos show but thats it they dont show anything after that.
what do i do?
as soon as it goes red do i disconnect it from my PC and into my ps3 or what?
the tutorials are incomplete, they lead you to the start application but end there.
my boards LED has been red for like 2 minutes now, i was waiting to see a flash complete pop up or something so i know its complete, but so far nothing.
am i suppose to unplug it once the LED goes red, or is something suppose to happen?

Ahh can't stand Telstra, if you had of been with internode you could have grabbed the linux distro unmetered. Haven't got my board yet so I'm no help with fixing yours, good luck mate.
