CFW & Linux options in 2012
Please advise clearly...!
I recently acquired a 2nd PS3!!! :D and immediately wanted to 'free' it up and use this awesome piece of technology's full potential...
(well nearer to it's full potential than we, the consumers, have ever been.) I've hacked my PSP to the ultimate brick some years ago after 100's of CFW installs and
Hombrewing it to death. It's eventual demise was stuffing around with dev tools I didn't understand and running something I had no need (or business) to run with an incompatible CFW or model... I never bothered to find out after my Pandora couldn't revive it.
I DO NOT WISH FOR THIS TO BE REPEATED!!
Console to be Hacked:
PS3 model #:CECHH02 (Phat)
No network access permitted ATM...
but I'd like internet if possible.
PSN access is not needed. (PSN on my other untouched PS3)
I also have a 1TB Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex SATA external HDD that can be connected by USB2/USB3 and/or a SATA cable + 16Gb USB & 4Gb USB sticks.
I want to install the right CFW to run Homebrew and backup games as well as install an otherOS: Linux.
I wish to have internet access while using Linux and/or CFW Is this possible now???
There is so many conflicting procedures and tutorials, most of which are out of date, N/A, or just plain wrong and have been made useless by newer software or updates.
Its giving me a fracking MIGRAINE
I would like to know, with the current available tools/warez in March 2012, what I need to do exactly to install the most useful CFW with Linux (otherOS) and internet access if this is possible with the least fuss and mess without having to downgrade after upgrading to OFW then CFW because of functionality issues.
I'm lucky to be able to start at 3.01...
So who is the smarty pants who can speak straight and sift through the brew??? is it you?
I researched the frig out of it and finally got a fix
After hoping on some instruction I researched the frig out of it and finally got a fix ;) from Moska on the Gitbrew forums. (Much respect and thanks goes out to Glevand and his legion of devoted dev!!!):D
After plainly and gently explaining what and why I completed step 10. and learnt some basic code, Partitioned the OOS freed space, listed the dev's bringing the BD and USB to visible appearence when media was present in petitboot, ran live red ribbon distro, installed from inside live session from USB pendrive.
At this stage in prep for red ribbons first boot from internal HDD I changed my display settings from the lowest SD smallest resolution to the highest HDMI 1080i setting and swithch audio to go HDMI as well... DON'T DO THIS!
It may have been the install but I have a hunch it was the display change... When I Rebooted with the pkg to Petitboot it failed continuously and returned to Game OS XMB.
:chinscrat Not to worry run the Boot_OOS pkg again wait for it ...
beep beep beep! XMB reloads. :-pray:
Run the Reboot pkg and you should be good to go Petitboot away! now with the OOS++ linux disto boot option :wow:
If you want real answers check out Gitbrew... a bit daunting the amount you don't understand and a little unnerving but extremely friendly and helpful plus these guys are on the forefront of PS3 dev and reverse engineering. if you want the latest homebrew related stuff your home already... but if you want to know why how and what the frig!!! then gitbrew is the goto.
