this sounds a bit confusing
yes it is possible to get banned
and no you can't remove the device while the ps3 is running it cause if it like jailbreak (which i assume it is) it will crash and your system will reboot.

PsJailbreak you can't remove.

PsGroove you can remove while the system is on.

As for banning, no one knows how Sony will tackle the problem.

Possible routes are:

#1: "Backup Manager is easy found, path were it installs, and the "Title ID" it shows.

(Don't even mention, the so-called "Stealth Backup Manager", it only Stealth if maybe you playing CODMW2, if you really like the game so much, just god-damm buy it!)

#2: "The PsJailbreak and PsGroove, patchs alot of flags in the kernal, Sony could on an update scan for these changes".

(But then if there is an update, most likely the PsGroove/PsJailbreak, will stop working anyway on v3.42 or v3.50)

#3: "Storing a table that detects changes, so if even you are off-line playing a game, and reboot without the "dongle", and go online, it knows you were being a bad boy/girl when you were "off-line" with the "dongle".

Anyhow, all the above is possible, and more, just WHEN it going to happen, tomorrow, next week, or a month before or right after a hot new releases (like the 360 do in their so-called "ban-waves" )

It is the "backup manager".

If you worried about "banning" -- They don't use it PERIOD.

This product is not for people that worried about stuff like that.
