I've not seen this problem anywhere else on these (or other) boards, so I'm going to hope someone has an understanding of what I need to do to fix this.

I received my blackcat USB earlier today, and have been attempting to flash it with various PC's, OS's, and drivers. My Blackcat USB doesn't have TCNISO, but it says EJTAG and version 1.5 or 1.6 (can't read the text well).

The short story is, its obviously not reading/writing correctly to the board.

The long story goes, I started in win 7 x64 and followed those instructions. Moved to XP virtualization mode, same thing, and now I'm on a genuine XP 32 bit machine....same thing. Within FLIP, it usually erases ok, but will hang while writing, and never make it to Verify. It gives the error at the bottom "Could not read from USB device.0x"...then, it'll go to "could not write to USB device". or "could not open USB device".

There was a great video posted over at sbhacker.net on how to flash, and it looks like I'm doing every step the same, except mine won't flash it, or verify properly. Also, another thing I've noticed is my Signature Bytes is different than the person's in the video. Mine only shows "58 00 00 00".

I'd like to try to reflash the bootloader portion, but I can't figure out how to do that.

Any suggestions? Did I just get a non-working board?

When I first got the board, the little blue light thing would light up along with RED, but no matter where I set the switches now, its only RED.

Sorry to be slightly off-topic but did you order from embeddedcomputers.net? When did you order and when did you recieve?

I ordered from them too but I won't get mine till after the second batch arrives on the 16th!

Try using the AVR Flash within the blackcat software itself.
Make sure you use the newest software from theoryshare.
    BlackcatUSB Build 250
Put your device in DFU mode plug it in, hit the reset button on the blackcat.
fire up the blackcat software and select the flash tab.
then load the hex and flash.

Its still a blackcat usb.. Embedded Computers made various designs of the board and kept renaming it.. v1.6 he decided to name it EJTAG.. not sure what he did with v1.7. I never had a need to change the flash on the jtags so I wouldnt be of any help, but they are all tested working with the original firmware before sold. I sent you an email of the creator to contact directly.

Within the blackcat software, sometimes I can get it to program, but not able to "start application". Also, no matter where I put the switches, if I hit reset, it'll see itself in DFU mode, which I thought was only supposed to happen when the switches were away from the USB port.

I had some issues at first on win 7 64 with getting the drivers to install so the device would be seen. Use the Blackcat software to flash. Flip doesn't seem to work to well with it.

Take a look at this and see if it helps. I did get it to work with Flip but the Blackcat app seems to work better with these. Go figure

Edit: lol I can't post a link since I'm a n00b here so google blackcat usb win 7 64 and use Dukio's tutorial.

Already trying the blackcat software itself. Same (basic) issues. It always shows its in DFU mode once I connect and hit reset. Most of the time it'll give some form of "write failed" halfway through, but even if it says it writes it all okay, it can't start application ever.

...yeah, that's the tutorial I've been using. No luck, unfortunately.

Now I'm on an XP 32-bit machine with the same results. The blackcat USB (Build 250) software will even occasionally show it "start application", but when I flip the switched back, it won't go. With the switches TOWARDS the USB port plugged in, it'll still show up in the blackcatusb software as in DFU mode no matter what, and the AVR firmware tab will pop up... it'll even start to write if I try it that way.

Really wondering if I just didn't get a faulty piece of hardware.

I'd like to see if its possible to reflash the bootloader portion, if that's possible.
