I just said what it is
you have a certain type of IPOD and the rockbox.ipod file you have is for another.

If the rockbox.ipod file isn't the right one for your IPOD it will just reset and return to the menu.

When you say resets back to main menu, do you mean it takes you to the rockbox menu? If so, that's exactly what it should be doing, that's the psgrooved rockbox, if you connect it to a PC while in that mode, you'll find it won't show up as a hard drive like it usually would with rockbox, because the USB Controller is being utilised for psgroove/hub device/HID instead of mass storage.

Sorry for the n00b question, but I figured it's a n00b guide so I'm allowed

I followed everything above on my ipod photo, I hook it up to my PS3 and do as it says to and it *seems* to work
it goes to the rockbox menu, my ps3 now has to folders under the *game* option.

however, I don't know what to do next? (sorry >_<)

one folder *instal packages...* is empty
and when I select the other folder *PS3_...*
it tells me an error occurred on startup

how do I get backup manger on there?
    thanks!

and thanks so much for the guide! it's nice to have someone take the time and explain it

You need to DOWNLOAD backup manager (V1 only) it's 'around' here somewhere - it's a pkg file. Stick it on a thumb drive, put it in the PS3 after it's booted with exploit then click on install packages - and selected manager.pkg

after that it's up to you to provide 'stuff' for it to run (from external USB drive etc) which you do by going into BM selecting the 'item' to run, it goes to XMB then you see the 'item' where you game disc would normally show (you need an original ps3 game in the drive for it to work)

I'm having a bit of an issue. I've tried installing this thing a few times, once without the IPL and once with. Without it, nothing was happening. I tried about 10 times to boot the PS3, hit the eject button right after and etc. I figured it was working right since I read that Windows would not recognize my iPod while it was in this state. Anyway, no dice. Reformatted the device and installed again. Second time I installed IPL, but PSGroove and .rockbox do not show up in the boot menu... I've followed the instructions to a T and I'm using a 5th Gen 30GB Video iPod. Does anyone have any suggestions that I could try? Been hurting my brain for a few hours now trying to figure it out.
