YLOD Problem. –
Hello. I have a CECHA01 PS3 and today it stopped working, I was playing Star Wars Force Unleashed II for about an hour tops and it froze, I thought it was a problem similar with the one from Dead Rising 2 (when you try to exit the mall, if the game it's not emulated). I turned off the ps3 from the power button (let it cool for half an hour) then opened it again, entered multiman (hit square checked internal and emulation) then i started the game. Again I was playing for an hour or so when the ps3 shuts down and the red light starts blinking.
Now I get the infamous yellow light after 4 or 5 seconds after i start the ps3.
Can it be something else besides the rsx? I will try later today to reflow it and tomorrow I'll go buy a 250k linear potentiometer, but what do you guys think?
The ps3 won't enter recovery menu.
PS: Works good after RSX reflow.
Its not a 100% fix, but you might try cleaning the old crappy white thermal Paste and applying some newer Arcticsilver 5 on there. Assuming that the RSX hasn't been so damaged that it would require a re-ball/flow. It might keep the Chips cool enough to stop you from getting the YLoD. During this process you should probably should clean the Fan of any Dust. I have no idea how bad your PS3 might be. But I've seen some right horrors on YouTube when it came to finding Dust Bunnies inside such Machines (i.e. Phats). Needless to say the PS3 was able to run much cooler and stopped that particular Person from getting the YLoD.
