YLOD Preventive Maintenance?
Have an old system (CECHA01) which has been very reliable, but
have heard of the YLOD and RLOD, which seem to be due to
heat problems. Have also heard about systems overheating and
even being damaged by the latest release of the Elder Scrolls
series, again presumably due to heat. Clearly, regular cleaning of
the vents and checking of the fans for any computer is necessary.
I see commentary around about replacing the thermal grease on
the CPU and GPU.
Is there any consensus on this?
I've been an electronics buff for more years than I like to think about
(1965 or so) and I've not heard that thermal grease ever needs replacement,
unless it's been disturbed.
Anyone here with real knowledge about this subject?
