    Hello Guys!

I recently got a PS3 from my friend for free! He told me that it got the YLOD unfortunately! It is a 60GB PS3 Backwards Compatible! I really love this console but would like to get it fixed! I took it to the repair shop and they said that the GPU was fried! SO basically I had to get a new GPU. They told me my only option was to get a Slim or send it to Sony! I called up Sony and they said it would take $150 to repair it! I am considering to send it to them since I really like this console! It has the chrome trim, backwards compatible, 4 USB's, flash card, it is just beast! I am really considering sending it to them! But the problem is, will any problems occur again? Will Sony fix it if a problem occurs? Has anyone sent their console? Also will Sony repair my PS3 since it's opened? Will it get YLOD again? How long will it take to develop YLOD? I also looked at a 60GB PS3 on eBay which has been reballed, should I just get that instead? If I send it to Sony, should I install a fan mod when it comes back, so it doesn't develop YLOD?

    Thanks!

First off, if you send it to Sony, they wont send you the same machine back, they will most likely send you a more recent phat model without the flashcard hub if you are lucky. If not then it will be a slim, second if you send it to them they will more than likely send it back to you with the latest fw on it, meaning you are stuck on ofw (in case you were wanting to run cfw). Im not sure on the fan mod, if it makes much difference. Also you wont get your hard drive back. It will be a different one. YLOD can occur at any time, all you can do is keep it relatively dust free, and if you are able, open the console once a year to re-apply thermal compound and clean it out, should last you longer than most. Maybe you should look into getting your own machine reballed, a second opinion maybe? As it is highly unlikely that the gpu is totally fried, it ylod's to prevent things from getting that far. What you want I imagine is a reball, not a reflow, not every repair shop has a reballing station, so maybe those guys just told you that to get rid of you. Go and ask in another repair centre if they can reball a ps3 and leave it with them, thats what I would do.

Reballing and reflowing are just temporary fixes. Hell, reballing is more expensive (a professional reballing costs more than 100$). So, if you have $$$, go ahead and have a company reball it everytime when it YLODS.

But if you don't want to spend $$$, then just buy a brand new PS3 (but it has to be FAT ps3 or early slim) and then buy a downgrade service for 40$ so you can get CFW on your new PS3. Your new PS3 is much less likely to get YLOD this way.

I have past experience with sony, sending my 60gb ps3, you won't get the your ps3 but a refurbished ps3 of the exact model you sent, so you will get the exact model
    Specs:
    CECHA01 Latest Ofw Installed
    CECH 2501B Rogero CEX-4.30
