Why would you want to copy a blu-ray and play it?

as a backup copy. incase the original gets scratched / damaged.

Not yet possible, however there was some news about the ps3 blu-ray drive firmware being dumped on a windows pc. And some xbox360 sceners were suppose to look at the possibility of modifying the firmware so it would reconize a backup for original. But never heard anything from that team anymore.
