I want to swap my PS3's internal HDD and I need help choosing a working one. Will this work: http://www.amazon.de/Western-Digital...6208053&sr=8-1

Also, I read a lot about using WD HDDs. Isn't it possible to use other brands? If not, which can you recommend?

Yes you can use any 2.5 HDD pretty much (some work better than others for jittery gameplay and stuff). That one you found works fine and its a really popular one. I have the Scorpio Blue WD10TPVT 1TB version. Most people say that dosent work since its thicker than a normal 2.5 hard drive. All you have to do is flatten the rizers on the ps3 hard drive cage thing so it sits all the way down, that way thickness does not matter.

Do I have to do that with the one I found or only with 1TB HDDs?

Oh wait, I thought the max. capacaty of internal usable HDDs is 750GB. How can you use a 1TB one?

The one you found will slide in just fine without doing any modding. They say the max is 750GB because those are the same thickness as the 500GB one you are looking at. The 1TB ones are slightly thicker.

Check out the reviews on newegg to the one you want. Just type in PS3 in the Keywords box, you will see alot of reviews on that

Thanks for the info. Do you happen to have a link or Youtube link where its shown how 1TB HDDs are made to fit in? Is it difficult to do?

Can you name some other brands that are good for the PS3?

No it wasnt difficult its really easy. Im not sure if there is a youtube video. I found it on a forum with pictures. I will see if I can find it again.

Heres a couple links. One is using the hard drive without the bay. I never tried that.

That only works for some drives. My samsung 1TB is 12.55mm and still wont fit... even without the caddy at all. It just doesnt line up for the SATA and power connection. Had to go with a 500GB 9mm drive.

Ok, I see. So there's no real capacity limit for the HDDs, it was just the casing.

What about brands? Does it have to be Western Digital or are there other that work with the PS3?

Pretty sure I've been using seagate and maybe hitachi too. I don't think the brand matters.
