there are still alot of ps3's out there that have ps2 backwards compatibility and they use the same firmware for all of them.
no, the only way your system will play PS2 games would be Homebrew Emulator or the external add-on device that Sony was rumored to be working onQuote:

in PS3s PS1 games have always been played through sofware, but PS2 was hardware emulated, so when it went software the never did get it working to their standards so the just got rid of it, but kept PS1Quote:
