What did Windows do to my HDD?
What did Windows do to my HDD? –
I had a 60GB YLOD on me awhile ago. I thought I could hook it up to my PC via SATA to USB to get my save, trophies, etc. After seeing that Windows wouldn't recognize it, I did some googling and found out that the PS3 HDD are encrypted so it was a useless attempt and I shouldn't have even bothered trying in the first place.
I ended up getting my YLOD of death fixed and when it started up, it told me the disk needed to formatted before using!! Someone told me that there was a possibility that Windows tried assigning it a drive letter and that there is possiblly a small section with that information which is causing the PS3 to not recognize it as my own.
I went ahead and tried using a program called gParted that you can boot from CD to see if I could see any info and fix the problem. The only thing it showed was an unallocated partition of around 55GB
So did I just lose all of my data by attempting to hook my HDD up to my PC one time??
Is there anything else left to try?
If you tried to initialise the disk within disk management then you will have written a new bootsector to the drive. You could try to get a copy of the bootsector but if it's encrypted then I would doubt you would be able to do it.
The drive will be fine to reformat and start from scratch.
Yeah, I do remember trying to use disk management.
Sounds like I'm kinda screwed. I'm not interested in reformatting it immediately since I have another to use right now.
You can try the "restore file system" option. good luck
How do I do that and where is that option located? I need a little more info and I would be happy to try. Thanks
