well...with all the recent advances regarding custom firmwares I've noticed something bizarre (at least) while reading through some threads here and at others forums

people are turning themselves into CFW fanboys...no im not joking

problem is that most (if not all) fanboys tend to loose their minds even in obvious situations and go flaming any one that likes an different thing which in this case is CFW! also trying to force people to install this and that without even knowing that there are different ps3 models and risks

i know that this isn't really news but really sad to see some dudes disrespecting and forcing others to bandwagon their side

Nobody is a fanboy. At first people didn't want piracy or back up managers to taint the scene. But now there is a whole bunch of cfw that allows just that. There was people that just wanted to delay the inevitable.

The other reason is that some cfw are dangerous. I guess only one is dangerous really (waninkokos). But, people just don't care any more.

Kmeaw's is objectively the best CFW for all consoles, especially now that the backup manager developers are including the PL in their apps. Kmeaw just took my lv2_kernel.self, lv1.self and then tweaked Geohot's nas_plugin(guessing, didn't check).

There's honestly no reason to use a different CFW.

seriously, fanboyism aside. wanikoko's firmware is a bad way of modding lv2.

It's good that there is one CFW above the rest for now. It will confuse people less. As long as Kmeaw keeps supporting it, I don't see a reason for other people to switch.

and the scene will change. I remember Dark_Alex came like a storm because it was so good, but after a while it became abandonware and people moved on to TN and others.

So just like the rest, who ever has the best support and features will be what people are going to use.

The nice thing is he doesn't have to keep supporting it. The tools are all out there for anyone else to just pick up and improve his PUP. I mean look at it, I released my CFW and in less than one day he extracted lv1 and lv2 from my PUP and packaged it in his improved PUP. We're certainly not the only two people that can make these little tweaks.

That said, with flukes gone, someone else is probably going to have to step up to do the real meat and potatoes hacking once 3.60 drops. All I did was copy what flukes outlined, and all Kmeaw did was copy my work and improve it (and I'm glad he did). With geo presumably gone, fail0verflow possibly gone, and flukes gone, the actual talent pool is shrinking substantially. I know personally I definitely lack the skills flukes had, I don't think I could have ever figured out those offsets on my own. There are still plenty of really talented people around, but still, we seem to be losing them faster than we're replacing them!

Yeah but keep patching is a double edge sword. We all know what happened to Waninkoko, and everyone and their mother decided to trash him. I mean it got really ugly. Even his girlfriend got harass and he had to come to her rescue. It was ugly.

Flukes1 was being harassed too. People where trying to ddos him(that was the rumor) and he left because a lot of people where demanding back up managers.

People don't get that all these devs are not here because they have a political cruisade against Sony. We are not the pirate party. We come to solve really hard problems and hack our game console because it is hard.

The challenge of getting into the code and running scripts and making the PS3 twitch is really cool for, but man, the scene drama is daunting! I am actually glad that flukes1 left because he doesn't have to deal with the drama, so if he feels like coming back he will be fresh.

People don't realize that lv2 patch drama wasn't because people where trying to enable piracy. It was because geoHot said not to do it. I mean even Graf_Chokolo got back to help flukes1 and that guy has been out gone for a long time. The reason other devs got mad at Waninkoko was because of poor design. Nobody is bitching at flukes1. He did a really good hack.

The real problem is when other people (mostly warez kidz) just add wood to the fire. And this is the Internet so that fire gets big! I am surprised that Waninkoko is still in the scene. I would have left. Maybe is that spanish pride!

Kmeaw CFW is definitely the way to go, minimal patching to the firmware, all other patching done at runtime in ram. No further support is needed for this CFW.

I dont think 3.60 and onwards will be as easy to patch. Unless Sony are really dumb they will start using a real random number in the signing process in future, meaning we wont be able to easily resign 3.60 onwards, we wont be able to just sign lv2 with 3.55 keys.

Its going to be interesting what Sony do in the future. I'm surprised we haven't seen a firmware update yet. They must be putting some thought and effort into it.

Wanins CFW is the most dangerous CFW out of the lot, But, If your able to install it without any brick what so ever, You will find that it has most game compatibility, Never freeze's & runs smoother than all the other CFW out there right now. JS
