Video Playback PS3 vs PC
Video Playback PS3 vs PC –
I've just upgraded to an Core i5 Ivy Bridge, 32GB of 1333 DDR3 RAM and picked up a really nice ASUS Z77 board. It's my first board to have a real GUI controllable by a mouse and it's seamless automatic timing/voltage tweaking is really impressive. So with that said I had been in the past using tools like mkv2vob or staxrip to transcode/convert high bitrate video files which then would then watch using the PS3. However, I've noticed with this faster computer that the video quality is far superior then what the PS3 can process. I do have CUDA GeForce card and I do use the CUDA MK4/MP4 codecs and man there is a major difference in videos streams above 8,000Kb p/s. It seems the PS3 decides to ignore data it can't process in real time. Showtime is not different and I believe the author should try to see if he can outdo Sony's player with some low level coding. At any rate, I just wanted to point out if you're going to be watching a movie with a high bitrate on the PS3 you'll be missing out.
Note - This seems to not happen during BD playback.
