USB the reason for red light of death?

I have a PS3 that I was messing with, that has original firmware 3.50. The issue is that the Blu-ray drive was messed up and would not accept discs. The system would boot up fine but then I noticed that you cannot plug anything in the USB ,not even the controller with sync via USB cable. Then I noticed the ribbon from the USB Board to the motherboard was disconnected, so I shut down the PS3 reconnected the ribbon and turned it back on and all I got was three beeps and a red light keeps blinking. Any ideas on how to get the system working again maybe through FSM? Any help would be great thanks

try disconnecting the ribbon again see if it works then you can see where the fault is

I think I already tried that and I still got the blinking red light, but I'll try again when I get hom. if that's not the problem then what else do you think it be the root of my problem?

I forgot to mention that the PS3 was powered on when the ribbon came loose and disconnected from that terminal with the locking latch

ok so i tried everything. tried with the usb board plugged in and unplugged still same thing. tried with bd plugged in and unplugged same thing. 3 beeps and red light flashing. i also tried to get it into service mode and fsm but no luck. any ideas guys or am i just sitting here with spare parts? is there anyway to check the power supply voltages? i have no clue whats wrong with it. i might even try reflowing it if i can but i thought the yellow light is for reflowing. i dono any help or ideas would b great though

i have had this happen a few times, usually when iv been in a hurry and rushed the job. 9 times out of 10 its caused by a short, take the metal shielding of the ps3 motherboard and just connect the heatsink and fan and power it up see what happens, if you have an old ps3 i would reconnmend you put a piece of cardboard between the psu and motherboard to prevent any shorts if it works check the shielding isnt bent anywhere and touching the motherbaord also just double check you havnt dropped a loose screw in the case any where., let me know how you get on

thanks rich but its a no go. i even removed the whole motherboard with only the power supply on and still the same thing. any other idea's?
