Upgrading PS3 Firmware Without BluRay Drive ?

I am in the same exact situation as you. Bought the system on ebay with the update loop, but the guy did not tell me that the logic bluray board was missing (he fried it somehow) and now I cannot fix it.

Lets hope a CFW can solve our issue, I am sure many people has a ps3 with a dead logic bluray board.

Now i tried so many things, and i finally gave up untill it gave me yet another message
so now no more loading progress when trying to update...

And i cannot even send that ps3 to sony here in France because it's a CECHB01
and they only accept EU Models...

Sorry for bumping this old thread but maybe someone has some use of this information.

I've bought a second Ps3 60gb with a broken bluray drive. The drive was totally dead, did not taky any disc's anymore or something. Since I expected to fix the drive after replacement it would be an easy fix. I've also tried to update but it always failed around 79%. After receiving my replacement drive (also a KEM400aaa) and swapped the logic board still nothing happend. Still failing after 79%.

So I swapped back the logic boards (the original from the drive, the wrong one for the ps3) and I connected it without video, and the drive completely works (with eject and everything) I left the Playstation 3 running for a few minutes untill it restarted itself. I left the playstation on for a about 15 minutes (I was thinking it would shut itself off or reboot again after a failed firmware upgrade) But nothing happend.... So I connected the video cable, and restarted my PS3 and was greeted by a 3.41 menu. So finally i'm on 3.41 but since i've got a dead logic board none of the jailbreak apps will run But atleast for the moment i've got a 3.41 with a dead bluray logic board.

and here is how i did it

Got ps3 with dead BR controller board too (fat ps3, single lens BR drive, dead laser , dead BR controller). Then i got new BR drive from another ps3 (dual lens laser, fully working, but of course not from original system) So i simple swaped spansion flash memory chip (BGA chip, you need special tools to solder this) from original BR drive to new drive - thats all
Now i have fully working ps3 and new type dual lens BR drive in it

If you didn't notice we don't need the BR drive anymore for flashing!
3.41 and 3.55 bypass are available!

I'm in the same situation.
I have an old 40Gb without BR drive NOR the PCB board...

Problem is it's on an OLD FW and i wanted to update it to 3.41.
Is there any development on this about a CFW that won't bother testing for the BR board?
