unusual blu ray problem

just got another ps3 that wouldnt read disks so i opened it up and had a look but all seemed fine the laser was that bright i could see the beem through the disk, but it wouldnt reconise any kind of disk, cd,dvd or br

so i swapped it out for a known working drive (kept the original logic board in) and i had the same issues.

i have downloaded a demo of psn but it just black screens on me. everything else works fine though psn store, browser and usb movies.

the disks are spinning up fine, the laser is working fine the disk icon in the top right of the screen is NOT spinning when i insert disk nor is the disk showing up in the xmb.

i have ran through all the recovery menu options but to no joy.

i have updated firmware to 3.72 (it came with 3.70 anyway so made no differance) to no joy.

is it worth trying another hdd?

its a fat 40gb ps3 with dual lens laser but cant remember modle now think its cechc01 if memory serves.

i got this second hand so the logic board maybe the wrong one but been on 3,72 i have no way to downgrade and remarry another board and i was made redundant last week so i cant afford a downgrader like e3flasher.

if i have missed anything i could try and fix it please let me know as i cant even install a cfw at 3.72

im open to all suggestions and if their is any one who lives near mansfield, nottinghamshire, uk with the capabilities to downgrade it for me that would be great however unlikely it is.

If it wasn't for the PSN demo I'd say it still sounded like a laser, and ask you if possibly swapped boards between 2 drives that used different lasers. But with the PSN game demo also not running, I'm lost.

its the laser, if the pPSN games won't load. either the laser is scratched or it needs cleaned....my ps3 did the same thing all i did was open it up and checked the laser, it moved like it was looking for a disc but wouldn't spin. i cleaned it, did it again.. so i just bought a new laser on ebay for $30. i have the exact laser.

i have put a new known working laser in but its still doesnt make a differance i think its the logic board but im stuck on 3.70 so cant remarry another board what are the tell tale signs the board is mismatched or faulty i have just updated to 3.72 so its definetly sees the board?

im not positive or certain its the board but if the new laser dosen't work then it must be the board.
