We for sure need a modified PUP update file that would skip the drive check or all the components check, only to get to XMB and play games or homebrew...
if a bluray drive istn the orginal then will it still play cds and dvds?
i replaced my bluray before my failed update with a know working 1 and it woulnt read music cds or dvd. the drive should still play them just not games right??
Ok so when i updated my non-workiing bluu ray 60 gig ps3 (i didn't know at the time it'd fail on me) it got stuck in the update, so i formated the drive, drained the c-mos chip, nothing came up on the video screen, I can only get the recovery menu.
This PS3's FW before the Brick was 3.00, i have my own ps3 60 gig and its latest update request is 2.7 or greater. So I threw the archived 3.00 FW update on 3 different flash drives (x:/PS3/UPDATE/).
All failed to recognize either via recovery or the XMB system menu update, "no update found applicable" or whatever, does that mean i need a flashdrive that can be read properly, because i wanna sync the FW so i can reformat/rebuild my drive on the bricked ps3.
I have a genuine ps jailbreak dongle, tried the self file modified fw method, but since i can't even get my working ps3 to read an update fw and it says non applicable data i'm pretty sure it won't work, i need a miracle flash drive i suppose, anybody have a guarenteed working flash drive model they can shout out?
And a Quick question: would my RSX chip be the case when i'm getting no video even though I can access the recovery menu? This was a reflowed ps3 and the update is what's caused the brick, so i don't think its the GPU, but someone might say otherwise from experience, thank you all.
I've got on old PAL 80GB console here, when you turn it on it the LED is green, it turns yellow for a split second ond then goes to a flashing red.
From searching i've read mostly thats its either a HDD problem on an overheating problem, but I know it was in the middle of a firmware update when it turned off so was wondering if a bad flash would cause this or if it was the HDD/Overheating problem that caused it to shutdown in the first place.
Don't think so. At least, mine doesn't run them either.

Well only applies if you changed the hdd sometime.
Especially recently before this error shown up.
I'll give that a shot. Only issue I've got is the PS3 was bought off eBay with no BD drive so not sure if the HD it came with is original, but not really got anything to lose at this point!
Hello, I'm having a strange post update loop problem.
I had this old ps3 without BD in an update loop and i tried to get out of it and formatted the HD on a pc before reinserting it.
Now when i go into recovery and try to restore ps3 system ora filesystem i either get a 'cannot access hd' or a plain on->off cycle
If i turn the machine on normally it just goes off after the spin up...
