Will your instructions work for a PS3 Phat with a faulty BD Drive, that is stuck in an update loop. I think it was on an early firmware version 3.x.

The reason that I ask is that I have seen post that state not to try an update the firmware using the Downgrade stuff, including your own post.

Is there anywhere to read up more on this, I don't think I understand the process well enough, still trying to figure it all out.

For the faulty BR drive that's not a problem, as long as a working BR logic board is connected correctly to the ps3 it should be fine.

You can downgrade or upgrade firmware while using the psgrade stuff
it doesn't matter, it goes both ways, but again never update firmware
in the xmb way while in service mode or you'll get RSOD...

hello, i have a 60 gig phat that got stuck in the update loop (i did it wirelessly 67% bd-drive i believe) i only have the bluray's driver card in there because this was a friends model that ylod'd and he broke his blu ray drive when he yanked his disc out i presume because the plastic pieces around the the disc magnet were all busted and i could never get it to realign properly, anyways that was a while ago, regardless of the drive as long as the xmb would load i was happy, then i proceeded to update it which was a big mistake, via wireless, anyways recovery menu wouldn't read any of my drives i put in (two 60gig stock retail drives) and gives me the please wait and the 800021b or whatever error, i have my own ps3 phat 60 and could get it to format the drive and rebuild when i'd prep it with mine first but still would only give me the BSOD each reset, anyways, i just ordered a jailbreak dongle and want to know if i can re-marry the firmware to this bsod ps3, its firmware is 3.0 (when i update it from recovery menu at the start select screen it says 3.1 and above, i'm assumming its got 3.0 firmware?) would this fall into a downgrade operation, or as i've read on previous past month threads about this question, mostly everyone says jb doesn't help with this BSOD. cannnot access hdd, please wait checking.. etc, all i know is it was working before i hit update, god damn sorny plus i also have swissknife preimium the fat32 format never worked, my other ps3 is the closest i've had to completed recovery menu options working (formating, rebuilding) , but still BSOD to shutdown. Also to anyone that could know this, does the JB dongle work with a bsod ps3 when you hit the power button and imediately the eject button, the red screen recovery menu? i got a week till it arrives at my door. All in all i'll just use it on my own ps3 if it would be waste of time, i have hunch it will soon be able to fix and remarry, i also tried the battery cmos trick but i've got the one that doesn't let you do that, or something malfunctioned during the reflow wich i don't think is true cuz it runs dandy for 30 secs

i did this to with the battery, but on another site i read that its not needed , just format the hdd to ntfc, make it a primary hdd not logical, i try it myself and it get out of the loop and you can go to the recovery menu again.

Now my problem and my question,

i have a broken bluray player, not to fix.

i use this ps3 as media player and watching movies from usbstick.

when i had my pskey i did the downgrade, but because the update always check for a working bluray, i fell in a loop on 76 %.

So now i have a ps3 with no Xmb system because when i try to go back to FW 3,50 it always gives me the error on 76%.

Is there a way to get my ps3 on again, dont need to play games , only want it as mediaplayer back, can i get linux installed without the Xmb.

Is there somebody who can modify the 3,50 fw from sony, so that the update not check for a working bluray, can this be done, hope soon there is such a update then i can use my ps3 with the broken laser.

please help me out to get my ps3 working, with whatever running system.

I hope the acquisition of keys leads to the ability to create Service Jig applications, so we can dump detailed logs and get the SPECIFIC REASON a RSoD is happening.

Heck, I'd consider writing that app myself, if need be. My bricked PS3 won't run jailbreaked apps, since it can't get to the XMB to install anything or launch... the Service Jig still requires signed apps. The combination of the Jig and our own apps, however, could be a great boon for owners of bricked PS3s everywhere!!

and if i had known this i never used a pskey on a good working ps3 media player.

So if you have a bluray that not work dont use a jailbreaker stick and downgrade.

or dont upgrade, it always check the bluray of it is working.

and the sites must warn people

ok so now i see, my bsod'd update looped ps3 will never recover becuase it cannot access the xmb anymore, wow an actual update that makes your system practically irepairable....

hey i wanted to ask you a few questions about a failed update ps3 fails around 71-72%

I have 1 working system and have removed parts from it and replace parts on other with no luck could i get ur skype/aim screen name?

I have 2 other ps3 systems all with newer firmware

OKAY its crazy i unpluged my wifi and my card reader and still goes to 72%.
how is this no error for them?

I had FW 3.15 on the system now im stuck in this loop can I use Geohots hack and update and downgrade it that way?

does any1 have the same FW I could send u my hdd and u could do a recovery so i can unloop it maybe
