Tried option 6 with the original HDD but results in error 8002F281 which i believe is an issue with the HDD.
I havent tried removing the battery yet but would that help this error message?
Have you got any other things i could try?
Would removing the HDD and formating it in a PC help or formatting it then scanning it for corrupt sectors?
This thing is driving me crazy thought it was going to be a simple laser swap.
Updated the firmware on my main PS3 cos i thought i could use this one with PSGroove.

Another update. Tried taking the HDD from my working PS3 and putting it in the faulty PS3 but it just gave be a wrong hard drive message and the unit wouldnt enter the restore menu.
Tried the hard drive from the faulty ps3 in my working one and it found it and stated it needed formatting and software installing but it had to be v3.50 and i didnt want to go higher than 3.41.
Anyone have any more ideas for me to try.

I have a PS3 that has a broken DVD drive clip on the motherboard and it is looping at about 76%. Can I remove the battery for 30 minutes then zero-fill the hard drive that I'm using now, then boot into recovery mode and restore the system? Will that work? And should I put back in the battery once I'm ready to boot into recovery?
Alright, here is an update. I have formated my ps3's hard drive on my PC and put it back into the ps3, it would not boot up and turned off after about 30 seconds, I then tried to get to the recovery menu and was successful in getting to it, I tried to use the Restore PS3 System option, and it is doing it now. I have left the house with it restoring the system and I am posting this from my cousin's house. How long does the restore take? And if this doesn't work, does updating the system through the recovery disable the NAND check(where it checks to make sure that every thing in the system is connected)? Because I have broke the clip on the blu-ray drive's connector that's on the motherboard so I can't connect the blu-ray drive.
You can still reconnect it if you still have the broken part of the clip. Carefully slide the ribbon into the connector, and remount the clip on top as snug as possible, and update the system. (don't put the top back on it for now).Quote:

The game can be ripped to hdd and the drive fully works. But the games will not boot via bluray :(

Hi, i just bought a PS3 160Gb Slim a couple of weeks ago
A few days ago i just got RSOD, after rebooting and keep getting the error, i went ahead and formatted my hdd on the pc.
Since then i have been trying to reinstall 3.50 firmware (i am forced to do that on start) but i keep getting error 8002f14e at 6% of fw install. I have tried re-formatting, taking out the battery, adjusting bd ribbon cable, recovery menu, etc. but no luck.
Is there any way to restore the console to it's initial factory settings? Reset flash memory? Or anything else i could try to get the the screen past the firmware installation?

Thanks to KaKaRoTo, I now have a pl3 edit that should (not tested) fix your bricked ps3 (if you can use psfreedom/pl3) for the pspemu bricks but might work in other cases.
Select all in default_payload.S (from the newest PL3) )and paste new code in its place.
newthen compile for fw 3.41 and use on ps3 (power then eject method). The ps3 should then ask you to reinstall fw (without formatting your hdd).Code:/*

I dont have a psfreedom device so cant test myself, but the code has been tested on a normal 3.41 ps3 and works.
please post up with results if you try it.
Im trying to add it into Jevinskies psgroove/pl3 port, but have an issue with the ps3 just shutting itself down. once thats resolved I'll post up source.
