Firstly, I think the first post should be edited to warn people about wiping their HDD if they are below firmware 2.50, since there is no recovery mode in firmwares before 2.50 this results in a brick like Reza684 has.
I know from personal experience..
Reza684: Have you tried going into recovery mode (not Service mode) because unless you are below 2.50 as I already said, you should have the option. If not, can you get your hands on a Jailbreak dongle or phone/mp3 player that can put your PS3 into Service mode? Then you could try re-install firmware and fix the issue.
I have a brick in the same boat (exact same sympthoms) from someone wiping the HDD after a failed update, when it was on FW 2.30. It won't enter service mode and doesn't have recovery mode either.
Thanks for the reply.
I cant go into service mode or service mode because my ps3 firmware is 3.56.
Also, I have tried to do a reset by switching off the power in the back of the system, turning it back on and holding the power button for several seconds. This used to work to reset the system and I would hear the 3 beeps, but now it does not work the same way. When I hold down the power button now, it beeps once and then about five seconds later it will beep a second time and then about two seconds later the system turns off (solid red light - standby).
Any ideas what could be going on?
Is there any way to install a firmware while the PS3 is like this?
Now there is no XMB or visual/audible evidence that the system is attempting to boot (other than the green light being on for 30 seconds).
The same thing happens when I take the hard drive out. Green light for 30 to 40 seconds and then goes to solid red light. Nothing ever comes on the TV.
Does anybody know what i can do to fix this other than sending it back to sony?
Isn't it possible to create an exploit for the ps3 similar to bootmii/boot2 for the wii to fix non-hardware caused bricks?
What that means unplug the battery?I need to pull it out and install the firmware without the battery?

at first, i tried ofw 3.55 update, but it failed on 57% -> error 8002F1F0 -> loop
then, i'm able to stop this loop by removing the cmos / bios battery,
format the hdd, and back to 3.21 xmb..
i read a post that i should try to re-download the fw and try to update to ofw 3.41 first, but no luck, the problem is always the same..
i had wireless / bluetooth joystick not connecting w/o usb cable, and can't connect the joystick using wireless method (did try to find solution for 4 blinking error)..
i feel lucky to be back on 3.21 xmb,
but i want to update to play new game via hdd,
that means i have to upgrade either 3.41 or 3.55 then update to hermes or kmeaw..
my questions are:
1. is this hardware or firmware problem?
2. it's stuck on 57% and had a wireless problem, so i guess it's either bluetooth/wifi, i already try to take off then put the black & white cable connected back to board, but still have this problem..
3. i already check the ribbon cable, and can still play older games and play my bd-movies, so that means my bd-drive is fine, right?
4. there are a bypass for bd-drive / BDB versions of the ofw, but my bd-drive is fine.. i'm afraid to use this update, coz it may ruins my system..
5. are there any custom firmware that bypass bluetooth/wireless error?
6. or do i have another solution for this? if there is a way, please do tell me..
thank you for reading and your solution..
best regards.. :)
EDIT: i check my wireless internet connection today, and the green light (wireless) signal is off.. so i guess it's really wireless issue.. do anyone have a solution? i already check the black n white cable, but i think it's connected..
Hello everyone, I need help. I have a ps3 running 3.41 that was stuck in a update loop because my ps3 is missing the bluray drive completely. So I pulled the battery and formatted my hard drive in windows and put everything back so I can at least I can get back to 3.41 but now when I try to go back to recovery it doesn't work. Can someone help me please?

I have tried all methods explains here unsuccessfully.
When you talk of jailbreak method you mean with the e3 card you bought?
I have a PS3 that was bricked after bad process during downgrade.
I was in 3.41 firmware version and recovery mode does not accept firmware lower than 3.56 and give an error for all others firmware (80002157).
So, I tried downgrade but goes wrong during writing firmware process and then the system does not boot at all.
It start but shutdown by itself after 15 seconds (without YLOD or red flashing leds).
At this stage I was able to go to recovery mode but with the same issue (80002157 and 3.56 min).
So I have tried many manipulation without success until I lose also recovery mode access...
I have tried to remove battery for a while (more than 1 hour), erasing HDD (write 0 on the first 80Mb), trying the blind method, different firmware (2.3, 2.76, 3.15, 3.41, 3.55, 3.56, 3.61 and 3.65) without success.
In fact, in the method I use (put the AVRkey in downgrade mode on the left USB port then press power and eject, then put a USB key with lv2Diag.self file1 and a firmware nammed PS3UPDAT.PUP without another files) didn't do anything...
I am sure the system could be recovered since USB port are powered and jig with AVRkey seems to works (boots time is 25s with AVRkey and Power + Eject but only 15s for 'regular' boots).
Please, Did you have any idea to unbrick my PS3?
Came across a RSOD ps3, i read somewhere that upgrading it to the latest firmware might do something for it.
So im updating to 3.61 via usb, but i dont think its installing that...the user agreement comes up saying (Version 1.4) December 10, 2009
And anyway when the update completes it powers off and comes back on it still has the RSOD (no surprise) but it didnt accept the fw update.?
The update jumps from 39% to 100% instantly and then RSOD's
With the Slims, you have to do the recovery method twice as the first time the system will shut down after the second beep. Give that a go
