Tutorial: ps2 .psu saves to ps3 internal memory card without a memory card adaptor

OK i know there is a thread on this but it seams abandoned and after alot of searching and a little luck i found this little method out...it maybe known by many but i'm going to put it out there for anyone to find it

Ok first thing u need to know is that "THIS ONLY WORKS FOR A JAILBROKEN PS3"

Things you may need

1. Multiman (if u don't know what this is or where to get it your in the dark "google is ur friend")
2. mymc download here http://www.csclub.uwaterloo.ca:11068...-alpha-2.5.zip
3. PS2SaveConverter_0_030 download here http://www.ps2savetools.com/download...p=getit&lid=90
4. thumb drive (any over 8 mb will do)

First thing u do is open multiman and goto file manager
navigate to dev_hdd0
next goto savedata
then navigate to vmc
there you will see a file Internal Memory Card.VM2 "name will be different if you named it...i will use internal memory card.VM2 just for reference"
hit circle on that file and copy to the root of your usb drive (maybe different depending on what usb port u put it into)
next take the thumb drive and stick it into your computer...
in the root of the thumb drive you should see the file 'internal memory card.VM2'

MAKE A BACKUP OF THIS FILE SOMEWHERE SAFE INCASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG (ALWAYS HAVE A BACKUP OF THIS FILE OR YOU MAY LOOSE YOUR SAVES)

Now rename this file to Internal Memory Card.ps2

open this file with mymc (i explain using mymc-gui...it's easier)

click on file and then import....select the location of your .psu file you would like to add to the card (weather you download it or just have your own backup) NOTE if your file isn't in .psu format use the PS2SaveConverter_0_030 and convert it

now with your save file imported close mymc "mymc-gui" and navigate back to the root of your thumb drive

change the name of the file 'internal memory card.ps2' back to 'internal memory card.VM2 (note i am not sure if the caps on .VM2 are needed but they are there so i suggest using CAPS)

now plug your thumb drive back into your ps3

in multiman under dev_hdd0/savedata/vmc delete Internal memory card.VM2

copy the file Internal Memory Card.VM2 from your thumb drive to dev_hdd0/savedata/vmc directory

exit multiman and check your internal memory card psone/ps2 on xmb...your new save should be there and ready to use

any problems just ask :)

using mymc it is also possible to extract your save games...if anyone here would like to upload and share there saves i will add them to this thread

if you do want to share your save please give these details

game name (important)
game region (maybe important...we maybe able to change this at a later time)
save location (important)
progress (many would like to know)
state of the game (also useful to someone wanting to use it)

saved for possible save game files

You missed some important things like:

- CellOS only support VMC with ECC. If someone make mc image on PC or PS2 he must add ECC correction data.
- Larger VMC than 8MB are displayed as Corruption Data (or something like this, i forgot about this). Probably games will see it if mount parram in db is still set.
- After adding, removing VMC, user must rebuild database to show them in XMB.
- After replacing VMC, user must rebuild database to show saves on VMC in XMB.
- File name it's not important.
- File extension must be upper case.


I write tutorial about this long time ago, but as always no one read it and reinvent wheel. :P

i agree i don't know everything (far from it) nor do i understand everything u said there but i can say i have did this method about 15 times in the last two days and i had never had to rebuild the database for it to show up in xmb...i did note that .VM2 may need to be caps ( i wasn't sure but thought it did) and that the file name will be different depending on what you named the memory card...i'm going to go try to find ur tutorial (i didn't find it when i did a search)

I'm trying to transfer a Tales of Abyss save back to the PS3 it's in .psu format, but does not show up in the xmb

I just said that you missed some important things.

We must split two things:
1. What XMB show.
2. What games see.

If you replace VMC (virtual memory card, i.e "my_precious_mc.VM1") you must reb db. If you will not did this, PS3 will not show in XMB saves from it.
If you add VMC, you must reb db. If you will not did this, XMB will show this VMC in XMB as corrupted data, and you will not be able to mount this card as mc0 or mc1.

So everytime when you worked with VMC *outside XMB*, you must rebuild database.

Well, I'm also couldn't find it. Maybe it's on different forum (;p) or maybe it's lost in some case. Sorry.

PS3 will not see anything than VMC on her HDD or *.psv on dev_usb.
Read wartutors tutorial.

Could you convert a file for me?
