Thermal paste and thermal pads for YLOD
Thermal paste and thermal pads for YLOD –
HI , 1st time poster
I acquired a YLOF PS3 that had a YLOD repair done on it.
all the case screws were missing and a couple from the system board but when i switched it on it still came up with the ylod
i bought a repair kit off ebay which came with grey thermal compound. i did the repair, switched on and it actully worked and fired up no problem although I noticed that the fan is on almost constantly (not like a jet engine but still quite loud). If i leave it sitting at the dash, the fan does go off for a minute then comes back on again. The air blowing out the back is warmish.
Is there any way to stop the fan being on all the time
Also, i reckon there may be some missing thermal pads.
Should there be a total of 4 on both sides?
I can buy thermal pads on ebay? would any type do that i can just cut down to size?
First how much thermal paste did you use?
Second did you do a reflow to the board/chips?
There's a nice guide at ifixit.com
I prefer to use the oven instead of a heat gun .
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees . Then as soon as you put the motherboard
In drop the temp down to 400 for 10 mins
Do set a timer ...do make shuts all cables are removed before hand.
After it comes out Don't Move FOR 30 MINS.
Do set a timer
And I use Artic silver thermal paste
yeah sorry , i did the reflow with a heatgun.
Ill get some arctic silver thermal paste
Its just when i ws putting the ps3 back together i noticed there maybe some thermal pads missing.
