testing a replacement bluray control board? you can attempt to flash a firmware - if it succeeds then the control board works! it doesnt need to be married to complete a firmware flash - it just needs to be present.
cool thanks Then im firing the guy I get lasers from because I have gotten two bad ones in a row!
is there a way to test the blu ray board ONLINE? Please point if so, I am having no luck with second laser replacement too - dunno if its the machine or the supplier to blame...
All you need to do is put some homebrew .pkgs (emus, Multiman, or whatever) on a USB stick. If there is no internet where the PS3 is download it where u do have access and carry the thumb drive with you. Then install the pkg you downloaded...if it runs your logic board works. If you get a black screen then there is a probably problem with the board or connections.
(*pales at the word 'homebrew'*)
For some reason I didn't quite follow that - what do I put where and huh? (FWIW I have internet at the PS3, but I am less afraid of soldering irons than of monkeying with the firmware on this thing... Is there a tutorial with itty-bitty baby steps for this operation?)
