i have two ps3's, one on 3.55 kmeaw and the other with 3.66, whatever the latest OFW is. I was curious to see if i could just take the hdd from the 3.66 ps3 and insert in hacked ps3. I wonder if the hacked ps3 would be able to read the files from the non hacked ps3's hdd and then you could just extract files from the hdd through ftp or usb

if you try this, let me know if it works. Although, im guessing someone thought of this already.

So you want to extract something from "/dev_hdd0/game/BCUS98125_INSTALL/USRDIR/ugc/missions" from the updated PS3? If so then yes, doing a
data transfer will transfer what files you need in that directory

But won't the orginal files be gone? The transfer utility is only for one way transfers, I think.

Maybe the long way might work. Data transfer from non-JB to JB. Then from JB, make an extra copy using MM or FTP to External Backup. After that Data Transfer back from JB to Non-JB.

Just a guess on my part, without much knowledge of how the Data Transfer Utility works. Do at your own risk.

You can't access the PS3 hard drive from a PC, because the PS3 encrypts data on its hard drive with a per-console key. MAYBE there would be a way to read them if you got that key, but you definitely can't get it from a non-JB console.

    lol reading fail xD nvm

A while ago I read on some forum that you can access the PS3 hard drive via linux, though Im not too sure if its true, or what app you would need to accomplish this.

When I data transfered my stuff off my CFW > OFW, nothing was deleted out of my CFW console, dont see why it would delete anything when doing the opposite.

When you use the PS3 Data Transfer Utility to transfer protected data, you will see what I mean.

Just do what NitroG said. Either a file manager (i.e. multiMAN, Comgenie's, etc) or FTP.
