I have an old 80 GB installed right now with kmeaw, I am running out of space though and was wanting to upgrade my hdd, just wanting to know if I needed to be on OFW to do this or can I just leave it on the jailbreak firmware?

I know the physical process (that is very simple) just need to be filled in on technical aspect of it.

    Thanks for any help offered.

I was wonder the same, 3.41jb mode allows to to swap hd you can even use more than 2hd but always under jb mode, probably 3.55cfw dosnt allow to do the same. in fact im waiting a new hd to upgrade under 3.55cfw. so ill test it and post results later.

CFW is so easy to setup on 3.55 currently that it's better to be safe than sorry.

When you get the new HDD, restore back to 3.55 OFW.

Install the new HDD, then go back to whatever CFW you were on previous.

That's what I figured, but my laziness often gets the better of me, but I have installed OFW 355 now and am getting ready to switch the drives.

I'm curious about this as well - I have a stock 160GB Slim that's running 3.41 for JB. If I were to swap hard drives, what kind of prep do I need to do to the new one? I've got a 320GB from a laptop that is sadly no longer with us that I'd like to put to good use.

well i confirm that is possible to swap and format hd under 3.55Kmeawfw throught the simple following process:

    1)did a backup and turn off(dhuu)
    2)change hd and turn on(dhuuuu)
3)as expected sys ask for formatting about 2 min for 500gb
    4)sys restart
5)tested installing random homebrew without problem
    6)turn off
7)swap for old hd original 60gb
    8)turn on and cross fingers
9)surprise hd working and content ok ramdom homebrew tested
    10) again swapped form old to new hd and tested ok

so its possible to use more than one hd in the same ps3, the system doesnt ask for formatting again once its done. didnt turn back to ofw to formatting and updating again as Satanicat suggested.

well i guess we are really lucky after beeing waiting for a couple of years now he have all this "epicness", there is hacking, drama, piracy, mass brick apocaliptic destruction, bulling, devs, noobs, all together for just a couple of months and already at this point of development.
