swapping 60gb bluray drive in to a 40gb ps3? –

hello.
i just got a 40gb uk ps3 with a broken bluray drive to replace my bricked 60gb ps3.
i wanted to just swap the drive over and have a working ps3 again.
but on closer inspection the drives look different.
the 60gb blurayhas an exposed board on the bottom of the drive.
and the 40gb bluray is a sealed unit?
please help, being without a ps3 is killing me!

You'll need to swap the NAND chips from the blu-ray drive boards in order for the new one to be married to your console.

thanks fo the reply.
the board on the drive look different though? less conectors on the 40gb one.
have i got to unsolder the nand?
i was hoping it was going to be a quick fix.
any more help or guides would be great.

sounds like the 60g has 400aa drive and the 40g has the 410. not swapable. they use diffrent types of lasers. and as long as his drive board is good that is all he would need to swap. once he gets the right drive of course.
