Strange External HD Problem
Strange External HD Problem –
I have a strange problem with my external HD.
Using PS3 Slim with 3.55 KMEW, multiman and Samsung external USB HD, 2.5", FAT32 formated.
I use this setup for months without any problems. Copy all files to extarnel HD on my Windows 7 desktop, then using on PS3. But this weekend somehow, after using the HD on PS3, it started to not work in my PC. Windows says it is not formated. I tryed in my Windows notebook too and Mac. Same, not working. But, when connecting to PS3, it works ok. All files appear. Using multimanīs file explorer feature, it is all there. But, when connecting to any PC, not working. It appears as "local hd" and no files, as "not formated".
Please, anyone ever experienced anything similar? External HD working on PS3 but not in any other device?
Any help or suggestion welcome!
Thank you all in advance.
Have you tried formatting the HD on your PS3, but you need to backup first. Backup your HDD on your PS3 and then format your HDD on the PS3 itself. That should work out.
TitanTX, thank you for answering. I have over 300GB on the external HD of important files. Iīm unable to back it up on PS3 as you suggested. Some other solution needed...
What exactly is the problem that you are having. Your HDD can be understood by multiMan but not your PC. That is strange. Can you please elaborate. I may be able to help you out.
How much storage space do you have on all devices, is there any chance your pc harddrive, external drive and ps3 internal(and anything else) can hold all the data. If so FTP would be your best bet. But if not then sorry because I've had alot of experience with externals that get corrupted or have weird problems like yours or have just died and the best advise I can give is back it up while you can, it's rare that you get this chance. You could probably free alot of space if you delete all the Game Data from your system, and any video files etc.
Strange for me too.
You can transfer files via FTP or:
make sector by sector image of this HDD, and after that try use some recovery programs to fix table. If they mess up something, just write this image to this HDD.
Maybe there is not enough power supply for your Samsung external USB HDD when conecting your computer.
