strange drive issues i cant figure out –
hi all im having some major issues i just bought a second hand fat 60gb ps3 for £25 without blu ray drive i put another drive in (from same model ps3) using original drive board that came with ps3 it will read all cd/dvd but some times it wont read games some times it will. i have taken the laser out and attached it to an external power supply and the laser lit up fine red and blue lasers.
i installed 3.55 cfw fine and multiman also installed fine but it wont play any games from my external hdd they all black screen on me but on my slim ps3 they all work fine.
if it was my laser how come i installed 3.55 ofw then 3.55cfw fine with no issues and how come when i hook it upto power supply it lights up?
obviously theres nothing wrong with the drive motor or loading mechanism otherwise it wouldnt play cd/dvds?
i cant play any backups at all and its doing my head in, BDEMU.pkg is installed by the way, all software is set up correctly all cables are connected correctly and i thought when i updated to 3.55 ofw it checks the blu ray drive.
please can some one tell me what is wrong with my ps3?
ps i have tried all recovery menu options too with out luck thanks richard
Sounds like you need to remarry the BD-rom drive board. There's a thread on the front page with instructions.
i was thinking the same thing but the blu ray board and the ps3 motherboard are a matching set?
is this method known for fixing minor software faults on blu ray drives?
i did start to read the thread earlier on today but my wife started moaning so i had to go off and do some chores another thing i never owned a dongle back in the old days i before cfw i used to use my old htc desire smart phone, is it even possible to get into service mode with my htc?
thanks for the help (again)chesh
oh and i should just point out i replaced the whole drive except for the blu ray drive pcb i used the original one that came with the ps3
1. The only other thing I could think it would be is that you don't have the ribbon connector completely connected to the BD-drive, but that wouldn't make sense for DVD/CD working but not Blu-rays. Hence my suggestion of remarrying.
2. It can't hurt anything as far as my understanding goes.
3. It used to be possible to use a HTC phone for downgrading, but it seems that klutsh has taken down the website. If you can find the recovery image to install somewhere else (maybe xda-developers) then you should be able to use it.
