Stock PS3 updated to 4.21 no longer reads BD-R DL

Hello all!

I can't say if this issue is specific to 50GB BD-R DL discs because I only have one. I recently was forced to update to 4.21 when I bought NHL 13, and then that night I wanted to watch Avatar 3D, so I pulled out my backup (on a Verbatim BD-R DL) which had previously worked on this system. I had watched it numerous times before without issues, and for some reason now the disc is not even recognized. I put it in, and it doesn't show up on the menu or anything. I have tried numerous times with similar results, so I then thought I would test if BD playback was working at all, and I was able to play the original Avatar BD fine, and I also was able to play a backup of The Hunger Games which is on a Single layer BD-R (Ritek).

Has anyone else seen this, or does anyone else have any idea why this might be happening? Thanks!

I upgraded from 3.55 to 4.30 and my Verbatim 25GB 6X speed single layer BD-R discs are no longer recognized by the PS3. So maybe something got patched in the firmware that prevents playback of these BD-Rs? I had to buy a used Sony BDP-S360 Blu-Ray player so I can watch the movies on the BD-R discs I have.
