I am at work right now so I cannot test anything but will when I get home. Anyhow here is the idea...

Since it seems apparent that the PS3 firmware/OS recognizes objects based off of the folders they are in, for example:

grrr.. due to post limitations I cannot post the link I would like to but anyhow here read this post : www(dot)ps2-scene(dot)org/forums/showthread.php?t=51606

In the guide it instructs you to place your video files on your removable device in a folder labeled "VIDEO" so that it will recognize it as such and list it under the "Videos" sub folder on the XMB.

    Sony themselves tells you:

    Update data download procedure

Create a folder on the storage media in which to save the update data.
Using a PC, create a folder named “PS3” on the storage media or USB device. Within the PS3 folder, create a folder named “UPDATE”.
So I wonder what special folders there are and if maybe there is an xploit in that line of thinking.

Like maybe try "AUDIO" or "MUSIC" on a removable device to see if it automatically lists them under the "Music" sub folder on the XMB.

Maybe there are some "hidden" special folder names that might offer an angle to run code etc..

Also it would be nice to keep a list of those folders that are discovered in case someone needs it sometime later.

Afterthought: Maybe this is a moot point as you can read the directory structure from linux on the HDD and these folders may/may not be listed there?

    Edit:

I didnt have time to test anything last night but the weekend is coming up so I will play around then.
