Sending in PS3 to Sony for repair
Sending in PS3 to Sony for repair –

Well a while back I took off Kmeaw firmware and I've been running my PS3 legit with the latest firmware. It has a BD movie reading problem since I downgraded it a while back. Anyways my PS3 got the YLOD while on OFW and it has NOT been banned on PSN. Can I still get it serviced? I'm not as a hardcore gamer as I used to be and just want a console for playing Rock Smith and Battlefield every now and then. The warranty has been dead for years now, it's 5 years old so I do know I'm paying for the repair service.

Maybe just take the hdd out and format it in case there's cfw remnants to avoid awkward questions. It shouldn't really matter though, you're paying them to do it after all

that wont take care of the ros0 and ros1 regions in the flash
but apparently he may have already updated a few times since he was on CFW. if he updated twice, then there are no remnants of the CFW on the hdd or the flash.

I didn't think about that good point, I just meant stuff like backups or roms that he might not have deleted before updating to ofw

I updated it from Kmeaw to OFW 3.55 to The latest and I THINK there was another firmware update. But I talked to the Sony rep yesterday and since I don't have my original hard drive, I'll just send the PS3 empty. also I formated the HDD (quick format) once I got to OFW since it kept messing up at first, and after being at OFW for a while it was running fine
