Semi-broken 60gb ps3, any fixes?
Semi-broken 60gb ps3, any fixes? –

So I was given a semi broken 60gb from my friend. The blu ray drive is dead, which I already know how to fix, but the real problem is with the RSX i guess. The unit powers on, displays a picture and everything works smooth. After awhile though, a weird matrix like thing happens on the screen and it just all goes green.
Although it'll be on for awhile, and working fine, then that happens.
Any ideas on how to fix it? Is it a goner and done for?

I have a 40GB ps3 that had a similar issue with the RSX. When playing games, there would be some weird texture map misfires and vector drawing hiccups, however video playback was unaffected. I reflowed both processors, and repasted the machine, it didn't help. Mine never went to a green screen, but the graphics issues made it crappy to play games on. On mine, I think ultimately it is a bad graphics processor that is causing the issues rather than thermal issues. But since yours is a situation where it works then gradually crashes over a period of time, you have a better chance of fixing it with re-pasting the gpu/cpu.
