Well, I think that reinstalling the original firmware does the trick. You can get it here. You'll have put the update file directory on the root of your storage device (/PS3/UPDATE/), be it external hard disk or flash drive.
You'll have to access the Service Mode, and you'll accomplish that by turning on the console and without releasing it, holding it till you turn it off, and again turn it on, hold it, a moment later you'll hear a beep, and after you hear two simultaneous bleeps stop holding the button. Link you controller with a USB cable connected to the the console, press the PS button and select last option, System Update, and the firmware should be detected and installed without a problem.
I hope you had that in mind. I'm a big n00b anyways. lol

^ can't you just install 3.56 on top?
or will there still be some traces of cfw?
btw? if I received the email stating
"A circumvention device and/or unauthorized or pirated
software currently resides on your PlayStation(R)3 system.
Immediately cease use and remove all circumvention devices
and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from your
PlayStation(R)3 system. Failure to do so will result in
termination of your access to the PlayStation(R)Network
and access to Qriocity(TM) services through your
PlayStation(R)3 system."
If I decided to unmod, will I be able to access the PSN network again or am I banned already?
The moment I got that email, I unplugged my ps3 from the network and havent plugged it ever since.
i know a guy that got a red screen brick after a week after installing 3.56 over cfw3.55
so i recommend to format ps3's hdd in a computer (ps3 doesn't format the whole disk... it'll never ask for a pendrive with the firmware update) then put it in the ps3, format again and when asking for a firm put there the original 3.55 to clean the flash part of the firm currently stored... then upgrade to 3.56
