Running Backups without Backup Manager?
Running Backups without Backup Manager? –
I there a way yet to run our installed backup games without the need for Backup Manager?
I am referring to being able to install a game to the hard drive like PSN titles get installed and can be run from the xmb.
ANyone got any ideas?
i dont know havent tryed it but just thinking out loud has anyone tryed editng the PARAM.SFO file or whatever it and change the content type to something other the DG - Disc Game (eaier thing to do would be to get a param from a working psn install and edit it to your game then place the game in the dev_hdd0/game/"GAME ID HERE" and see how that works. I would try it right now but my girlfriend is sleeping and thats where the ps3 is.
just thinking out loud
I tryed it and it didnt work...
The problem I am having is that the games don't appear in the xmb. Unless I have to edit something to make them appear.

if i had bm's source it would be pretty easy to make
What I want (or am trying to do) is turn the Disc Game into one that can be launched from the XMB like PSN titles.
My problem is I can't get the title to appear in the XMB. Is there a file I have to edit to make it appear?
When you install a .pkg file, does it modify a file so the PS3 knows to add it to the XMB?
I think you are missing the main point of difficulty here.

Because that game executable, as well as any other code that game contains, was compiled to run from BD disc. So almost every single file opening in that game (except for gamesaves and some other stuff on HDD) will be addressing the filesystem on the BD drive.
That is the main reason why the BM is needed.
Not just to launch the main binary, but so as to redirect all the BD access functions to access HDD instead, as required to make the game code able to work right with HDD.
