I have a few consoles that I am currently in progress or repairing. One of which is rendered rsod; red error screen upon system boot. Console can boot into recovery mode no problem, however I believe that it is the nor flash that is corrupt. Upon attempting firmware update, HDD formats correctly then upon reboot and continuation of installation process an error is displayed stating that data is corrupted. Tried multiples downloads of multiple firmware versions on different usb drives; same error, leading to possible corrupt nor flash.

Console is a CECHL 80Gb with VER-001 mobo thus including a Samsung K8Q2815UQB-P14B 16MB NOR flash. I have another 2 identical consoles, one fully functional and one YLOD.

My question here is: would it be possible to swap flash ICs from the ylod console into this rsod console in attempt to fix the corruption without being able to dump/flash the contents of either nor flash? Just want to get some insight on this theory before pulling out the soldering equipment. If this wont be possible then I may look further into the development of utilizing dual flash for dual firmware on my working CECHL.

I don't think you will be able to do it without physically reading and writing the chips first.

What do you think would need to be done then? I wouldn't be able to use graf's payloads to read/write flash on either console nor be able to install petitboot to get Linux up and running since I cant get into gameos? However I do have a teensy++ on order and am fine with the hardware mod to do this but don't know if I could do anything for the ylod console?

Thinking about this brings up another question. Theorised in the pdf related to the dual firmware development was the possiblility of harvesting the flash IC from a YLOD console to use as the secondary nor IC. How can one read/write to this chip then? Can it just be done with a nor programmer as long as vcc is active, with the proper interconnects even without the console booted or even if the IC was transfered to a custom pcb?
