    Hi,

is it possible to restore a full system backup from a 3.50 console to a newer one running 3.60 ?

I want to swap an older console running 3.50 with my new one running 3.60 for obvious reasons

But the dude I want to swap consoles with wants to keep all his savegames. If a full system backup is not possible, how can i save
the savegame-files properly ? what about copyprotected savegames like killzone ? is there a list of games for ps3 where the savegame-files are copyprotected ? maybe he hasnt one of them, I don't know yet.

how exactly do I perform a system backup ? I've read about using an external USB harddrive is possible. I have a 1TB drive right here and i have a few 100GB
free disc space but it is NTFS formatted. can i run partiotion magic or smth to create a FAT32 partition out of the free space ? will the ps3 recognize the partition ? or does it have to be a full hardware FAT32 drive ?

    thanks in advance

PS: sorry for my bad english

associating the two consoles with Internet cable and copy data.

Ohkay, so you have a 3.50 PS3. He has a 3.60 PS3. You want all your data on the 3.60. The guy wants to keep his saves. For normal saves you can just copy them to a flash drive from the XMB without any type of jailbreak. But if he really wants to keep his copyrighted saves you are going to need to data transfer from his PS3 to your PS3(with different hard drive in so you won't lose all your data) Have yours spoofed to 3.60 and data transfer from his to yours. Then install any file manager and go to wear the saves are located. (I think hdd0>home>000000xx>saves?) And copy the CR saves to something like a flash drive. Then if you want all your orginal data on the 3.60 PS3. Put in your old hardrive to the 3.50 and data transfer from yours to his. and Done. The 3.60 PS3 now has your old 3.50 data and the 3.60 PS3 has all its Saves backed-up (:

I thought most saves were protected via "per console key" and there was no way to make them work on another console. is that outdated?

(I DO know that you can copy them wherever you want, but that does not make them work ---> GT5 saves!)

The per console key is for the encryption of the data on the HDD, which obviously doesn't apply for data that's been pulled out of that HDD.

if the saves are NOT encrypted, why are GT5 saves only working on the console they were created on?!

stdule : Does this work with both consoles (3 50 and 3 60) without jailbreak ? Do I have to use a patch or a cross - over cable ?

    Pretzel729

: ) No no no , it ' s the other way round

    I better start from beginning

I bought myself a brand new PS3 slim 320GB three days ago I bought a gamebundle because I ' ve heard that chances are better to get a 355 or older
I ' ve been disappointed because it ' s a 3 60 I did ' nt even played on it , there is absolutely no data of any value on it to me

A friend of mine bought a PS3 slim 160GB in January It runs on 3 50 He doesn ' t play online He is not into jailbreaking because he lives in constant fear of losing warranty etc

Ok this is the status we have right now

    Now we wanna swap

He gets mine PS3 with 320GB instead of 160GB and half a year longer warranty He doesn't care which FW he gets because he doesn ' t want to JB
But he wants to transfer all his savegames to the new one and ( if possible ) all the installed games because ( quote ) its a pain in the ass to reinstall all the games

I get an older PS3 with only 160GB but with a 3 50 FW So that I could JB it

What I want to do :

    1 Connect a USB HDD to his 350 PS3
2 Do a System Backup to the HDD
3 Connect the USB HDD to mine 360 PS3
    4 Restore

    What I don't want to do :

1 JB his 3 50 PS3 before swapping because of possible brick (When I brick it after weve swapped and he already has mine 320GB 3 60 PS3 with all his saves working it only would matter to me, but better not before the swap)
2 Update his 3 50 PS to 3 60 to Backup his system because this would not make sense

What I want to know :

1 Does the PS3 recognize FAT32 formatted partitions on a USB HDD when there are other NTFS partitions on it ?
2 When trying to restore system on the 3 60 with the data from the 3 50 , will it work ?

I hope it is understandable now

PS : Sorry, no periods this time. I'm getting the "do not post links" error all the time

Oh, come on, the chance of a stable CFW (read : any cfw but waninkoko v1) bricking your PS3 is the same as an OFW (which means unless there's a power cut while updating you're good).
Anyway you HAVE to JB the 3.50 PS3 and install a 3.60 spoofer on it in order to use the Data Transfer Utility.

Actually I think there have been 2 OFW that have bricked consoles (hence the 'silent' updates)
