    Hello.
So yeah, as the title says, I want to replace the thermal paste below the IHS of the Cell on a PS3. I've seen a video of someone removing it, it looks like the IHS is stuck to the PCB with silicone (like in PC processors). So with a razor blade you should be able to cut it and remove the IHS, but what I'm wondering is what to use to stick it back after replacing the paste? I plan on using AS5 on the die. I was thinking maybe a bit of Artic Alumina Adhesive since I'll be using that on the RSX aswell, but I'm not sure. More silicone sounds like a bad idea to me, as it might make it so the IHS makes less contact with the die... unless there's a way to remove the silicone without screwing the PCB.
    Thanks.

EDIT : Here's a video where you can see the Cell with the IHS removed : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xZ0PUsAWlM

Alright, thanks. Would you suggest applying it above the leftover silicone on the PCB, so that it sticks back together the silicone left on the IHS and the one on the PCB, or completely remove the silicone on both parts (and if yes, how to remove it? I won't want to screw the CPU xD).

It's not silicone, those 4 corners that attatch to the IHS are the GPU RAM, adding some Arctic Silver Thermal adhiesive to them and Arctic Silver 5 to the GPU die in the centre will work just fine.

Clean up the old adhiesive & thermal compound first though with IPA.

Yep, I thought removing the silicone was a bad idea. Just needed confirmation. Will do this in a few days. Thanks a lot

EDIT : I see you edited your post, I'm not talking about thw GPU but the CPU.

Same applies, just clean it up and refit, nothing more than that is needed.

Nope, the CPU IHS is stuck on the PCB with silicone. If it was the same as the RSX, I wouldn't ask x)

Not what I meant. I meant same as what I originally said, just use the arctic silver adheisive to bond it back together. You can scrape it off if you really want, but no real need TBH. I had originally wrote what I actually meant, then later thought you were talking about the GPU and edited my post, hence the confusion. Sorry bud.
