Replacing my ps3's mobo
Replacing my ps3's mobo –

Guys
as my ps3 is already hit with YLOD several times, I decided to replace the mobo. My ps3 is cech06 singapore model, 40gb. several questions
1. can i replace the mobo with ANY REGION mobo?
2. I am concerned about the contents in my HDD
all of my wedding pics, graduation pics are there. if I change the mobo, will the ps3 ask me to reformat my drive ala a new ps3?
3. can i simply replaace the mobo without any special needs to flash the DB drive etc, u know, those weird things we have to do. is it really plug and play?
thanks for the reading guys

Sorry, if you replace the motherboard, you will lose everything on your HDD.
The HDD is married to the motherboard, and the new motherboard will ask to RE-FORMAT the drive.
Second, the Blu-Ray drive is married to the motherboard, so if you replacing the motherboard, you need to ALSO replace the small Blu-Ray driver board on your drive.
And that new driver board has to match the replacement motherboard, if it does not, your PS3 will just be a nice shiny black brick, with XMB, no demos, no games, no movies. -- It might still play old DVD movies, not sure of that.
Region does not matter, as long as the motherboard fits your case, and like I mention about you get the matching driver board to go along with your new motherboard.

Is there a way for sniper to extract his data from the PS3 via computer, on windows, or perhaps linux?
I have a friend in the same situation as snipersnake.

Sadly it is not possible. -- You need to know the decryption key to get access to your hdd data. -- And even then, you need to be able to re-crypt the data to your new ps3 system. -- As even the sony "backup" function is useless as it will only "restore" on the same motherboard you backup from. -- Sony did add a "transfer" feature on the newest v3.15 firmware, but then you need the machine is working order long enough for it to "transfer" the data to your new machine.

Hi all. I'm new here and I'm in need of some advice...
Based on the RSOD thread, I decided that I'm replacing the motherboard/driveboard.
I found a few sets on ebay that have some issues that I don't beleive are mobo issues:
Mobo 1: does not power on
Mobo 2: no video/audio
Mobo 3: games freeze during gameplay
Are any of these worth buying, assuming that they are not motherboard issues

#1: most likely is the 32amp power supply metal brick inside, replace that and you should be good.
#2: tough one, could be "hdd gone bad", "could be burned hdmi port", "could be bad attempt at reflow to fix ylod" -- i only pay cheap cheap for these (like $40 to $50)
#3: most likely it is the blu-ray laser going bad, will need to be replaced with the same type either (400a/single-eye) or (410a/dual-eye) to solve this problem.

Thanks for the info...
I decided to go for a YLOD motherboard that the seller has not attempted to fix. Hopefully, a reflow and a motherboard switch-a-roo will get my once RSOD system up and running.
