    Hi there,

Yes Im new (flame away) but I have been a long time lurker for ages.

If I was to replace the internal hard drive on my Ps3 (its 120gig) with something bigger 500gig, would i still keep the same firmware 3.41 or would it revert me back to a older firmware?

If it does is there any way to reput 3.41 on it and not upgrade to 3.42.

    Thanks

It depends on the model of PS3 you have.

If it's an older Fattie and the HDD doesn't pull straight (you slide it to the left first then pull it out) then you can keep your old FW and it won't be an issue.

If it's one of the newer ones, or a Slim you'll have to update it via USB drive after you install the new HDD (may be able to connect via ethernet cable too, I'm not sure). If you do it via ethernet it'll update to 3.42. If you do it via USB you'll have to have 3.41 or 3.42 on it as it won't let you revert to an older firmware than was originally installed before you changed the HDD.

So if you want to keep 3.41 then you'll have to find it and load it onto the thumb drive. I'm sure someone can link you to a place that has that version still online.

I have that 3.41 if you need it PM. Like the post above said. You will need to load it on a thumb drive to be able to format the hard drive right from the PS3. Most people don't know the issue is due to the newest Playstation 3 firmwares being too large to fit on the internal flash memory. This means when you remove the old drive you are actually removing some of the data the system would need to reformat the new drive.

You can likely get replacement screws that would fit that from a computer store. The threads on the HDD are fairly common.

And if it comes down to it, you can easily get away with only one screw holding it to the HDD casing, but I'd suggest 2 if you can't get all 4.
