replacing 120 gig h/d to 640 problem

I have swapped over my 120 to a 640g hd now when i go to install 3.41 from usb it tells me there is no compatible data please use 3.41 or above i have tried loading from backup manager too to no avail. I have tried reinstalling 3.41 to system with old h/d installed thus having compatible 3.41 with new h/d to no avail sometimes it goes to 50% if I keep trying then gives me same error any ideas on a workaround or other way. Just to confirm the firmware updates the machine and reads the usb with old drive in just not with new drive. On first attempt it did format h/d then this error.
Any help would be appreciated cos its doin me napper in. cheers in advance

Go grab the 3.4.1 firmware from www ps3-hacks dot com and put it on your usb key (formatted for fat32) into a folder called

PS3\UPDATE

eg: E:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP

then try and install it again when it asks by pressing SELECT and START

worked for me!
