Replacement Bluray PS3 Slim
Replacement Bluray PS3 Slim –
Hi there guyz n galz,
Have a rather n00b question for ya (Have you ever seen any other sort of question come from my keyboard? )
Right I have a PS3 Slim which I brought just before Xmas to replace my old fat 60gb PS3 that went BANG!, but the new unit has a problem, the blu-ray is completely sh@g-lol-ed! The story is it was my Brother-in-Law's and he sold it to me. I knew the Blu-ray was not working as he stated that his small son tried to insert multiple discs into it and something went snap. I thought I'd take a look last night, so I pulled it all apart and had a gander. The blu-ray I think has completely gone, when its turned on I can't hear a whirring or any kind of mechanical noise and if you try to put a disc in, it goes part way and then either pops back out of gets stuck.
I saw on ebay and the like you can buy full replacement drives and all you do is swap over the logic boards. However all these drives i see are taken from the Phat PS3's. I aint too sure if these can be put in a slim and I don't wanna risk buying one for £60-£70 just to find out I can't.
Now the problem I mainly face is that I have took out the slim drive but I can't find a model number or anything. Do any of you guys know what it is or where I can get another one from?
yeah thanks, i actually googled it before i came on here and surprise your web search was about as fruitful as mine being most records shown are for laser replacement, where as I would have liked to known what type of drive was in my slim and if there may be a vendor that sells the complete drive. In future i will refrain from posting any new thread which may be annoying.
LOL, I was actually trying to be helpful. I believe there's some drives there about halfway down the page that give a model number. Dunno if it helps you any, but it's what I found. Looking at the search again, it looks like the model number is KES-450 (halfway down the search under shopping results). Then again, I'm doing a US Google search and the results might not be the same country to country.
Here's a US result that offers w/ or w/o the laser: http://www.thegamersfix.com/product.php?productid=16212
Hopefully that helps.
Oppps sorry thought you were being sarcastic ( i get that alot) yeah my search was different as in UK but checked your shopping link and if I have to I will import one. Thanks for the help and sorry again.
But at least i didn't ask if 3.55 is JB'able/Downloadable or if it can run a GT5 backup
Usually I am extremely sarcastic, but this time I wasn't. I use Google SSL services, so whenever I try to link someone to a search result that I found, it has this absolutely huge URL that I have to copy and paste. Just thought it'd be easier to use Let me google that for you as it'd show you the results and the URL would be a helluva lot shorter and should have brought you to the appropriate results.
Anyway, check ebay.co.uk for that model number. It might only be the model for US drives, but who knows. I'd think the drives are region locked, so, I'd ask all the necessary questions before importing one. Just a thought.
Also, if you search on these forums hard enough, you should be able to find the Sony PS3 service manual (or Google it) and that'd have a list of all replacement parts in the PS3 for each region.
i read somewhere that if you insert a disc into the drive and it goes in straight (no rotating) its the old 400 lens type...if the disc rotates then its the new 410 lens type...all slim ps3s should be the new lens type...but since you have already taken out the drive...i would just order a ps3 slim replacement blu ray...
Full Optical Block Kem-410aca *New*
just the first one i found...
Thanks guys, found it and ordered.
