Replace internal HDD and keep v3.41 –
09-15-2010,12:49 AM
Hi. I'm looking for a guide to help me figure how I can replace my internal hdd drive and keep my 3.41 firmware.
I already know :
-I may not have to bother with re-installing fw. depends on way to remove hdd
-I can download firmwares from eurasia
-I can download three v3.41 firmwares : 2 full, 1 patch
What I'm looking for:
How to replace my int. HDD and keep my 3.41 fw?
How to check wich 3.41 I'm using right now and/or wich one I need to get from eurasia?
Thank you all.

When upgrading the hard drive with firmware 3.4.1 installed already on a ps3 slim, i get an error saying "the system software cannot be run correctly" It says i can load the update from a usb key, however i tried using the usbkey i backed up my original drive with, but that wont work. Does anyone have a link to the 3.4.1 firmware update i can put on it?

Figured it out.
1) download the 3.4.1 firmware from here
http://www.ps3-hacks.com/category/3
2) Extract firmware to e:\PS3\UPDATE (or whatever drive letter your usb key is)
3) power up ps3 and when it gives that error, press START and SELECT at the same time, it will read the usbkey and find the update firmware.
4) it will ask you to format the drive and confirm by holding the START and SELECT buttons at the same time. formatting will comence, followed by 3.4.1 updating.
5)restore previous ps3 backup from external drive using backup/restore utility

I have a spare 2"5 320GB HDD and Im thinking of buying a ps3. I obviously dont want to update past 3.41, so my question is : Are you required in any way to connect to the PSN in order to sucessfuly swap a HDD?
Also another thing, I'm thinking of buying a fat ps3 with 40GB HDD and then upgrading it to 320GB. (since its a ripoff where i live, fat 40GB 285$, slim 120GB 445$ )
Is slim really worth it?
